Rub me the wrong way, and I'll go off in your face

How does John get his motorcycle back in time to save Juan from the firing squad?

The last we saw of his mode of transportation it was shot to hell by Juan and then we never see it again until the scene where jaun is captured and put up against the wall.

is it a plot hole?

perhaps the bike he comes in to save Juan with is not his own...

perhaps John stole it from Gunther ruz's private collection while at the fort where juan was captured?

that is my speculation, of course ignoring the fact that this could be a plot hole.

sure as hell looks like it. if it is indeed a "stolen" bike, it is a hell of a coincidence that it is the same model. I'll check again tonight and confirm wether it is or not.

I will be forever in youre debt if you could post comparision  shots up.

Nevermind. He must have stolen it after all. The models are completly different. A shame..it could have sparked up alot of debate if they were the same bike. oh well...

At least we can be thankful that there is no plot hole.

The bike he rides on to save Juan  even looks like a military bike, so that confirms he stole it from the general.

It would still be nice to have comparision pics though.

In the book, John steals a "black metal machine, a very new and  German -made motorcycle",  as well as dynamite from the tax assesor's office. But the bike he rescues Juan on is exactly like the olive '28 Harley (name badge painted over).  The bike is another anachronism of the movie, but may have been all Leone could find.  Besides, a 1913 Harley would have one cylinder, and bicycle pedals, equivalent in performance to a modern moped, with a total-loss oil system, worthless in Mexico where gas stations would have been very far apart.
