I liked it a lot. Not the whole of it (their is a part a bit strange to me in the middle), but most of it is great. I like this comment too :

I love this song. Every time I hear it, I think of Clint Eastwood in one of his cowboy movies. Wasn't this song used in the movie "My Name is Nobody?"

their version's ok, but not the first.
i was playing "eccy of gold" on stage in mid 1969, sydney, australia.

the reason why the middle bit sounds "strange" in metallicas version, is they probably don't have the musical skill to transcribe that section accurately.
it's a lot more layered and harmonically advanced than the main theme preceeding it.

technically,  morricone's dollar western music is very simple melodically, but where it shines like a beacon, is in it's delivery.
the muso's used were top class, and ennio would have chosen the leads well.
which he did.

classics all, and a treatise in modern electronic orchestration.

if there's been one influence in my musical life, above the hendrix's, zappa's, stravinsky's, bartok's, etc, it has always been, and always will be ennio.
