I read  at the italian swdb that Brass never considered this movie as his own because he had some altercation with the producers. Still the movie is his own, as stylistically is better shot than most of the products of this genre and has a touch of sex more risqué than the average SW.  But I found it slow moving in parts and not well thought up in some scenes, though the last part (after the confrontation between Celi's gang in the abandoned town) is original and with some good ideas.
The plot has the stranger called Yankee (Leroy) arriving in the usual border town ruled by the local Ramon Rojo, i.e. the Great Concho (Celi). Leroy propose to Celi to cash in the rewards of the memebers of his gang (quite idiotic, I'd say, expecially as the proposal is made in front of the would-be victims) and after Celi's refusal decides to make the deal on his own.
Leroy is OK, though not exceptional. Celi's performance I found quite static: Fernando Sancho would have been perfect for the part.
The score of Nini Rosso (who had a huge international hit the year after this) is good in the main theme led by his trumpet, but is old-fashioned in the other tunes.
I give it a 7\10, with an effort.

You made no mention of Mirella Martin.

I'm disappointed.

Celi's performance I found quite static: Fernando Sancho would have been perfect for the part.

Had I just come out of my first viewing I would have agreed with you but now, that I just finished my second helping, I disagree.

Sancho would have injected too much humor into the part making Concho yet another comic villain in Sancho's long list of overweight mexican bandit roles.

Celi did a fine job conveying an always threatening adversary.

Sorry.

Also, no mention of the big-breasted saloon whore in the beginning. tsk tsk.

I have reason to believe the actresses' name is Henriquetta Senalada.

i JUST WATCHED the new Franco Cleef version.
Must agree with the first post. Not very impressive.

The women were gorgeous and bodacious.
One wishes Brass made this film a few years later when n udity became common in films.
Damn!

btw why are mexican banditos ALWAYS laughin' out loud?

The camerawork is impressive (the best looking SW outside of Leone's camp as far as I'm concerned) but the story is clunky and cliche.
I still enjoyed the hell out of it though.
