today i just bought the DVD for fistfull of dollars, realising that the film is in a 2:35.1 aspect ratio I put my t.v into widescreen so i didn't have to tolerate the large black lines, and so i could see the picture. anticipating that the widescreen would be reduced i turned it on, to my horror it wasn't and i had to toleratewatching this amazing film without being able to see the damned thing. i could hardly see clint eastwoods head for christ sakes.

I just wanted to ask you guys why this did this, why was the ratio not reduced  by the widescreen format, it normally does but why is this DVD so special. HELP!

This dvd isnt anamorphic enhanced for widescreen tvs, so you probably need to set your dvd to letterbox. Hopefully the next dvd will be

The FOD DVD that I have is double-sided, one side full screen and the flip side widescreen. I think FAFDM is same thing.

The black bars are there because the dvd transfer isn't anamorphic. I believe the Norwegian release has an anamorphic transfer, but the uk r2, and the r1 are non-anamorphic.

If your tv is like my sony 36, the only way to watch this film with a r1 dvd is to watch the tv in std (not 16x9)mode or the image is squashed even further than 2.35 due to not being anamorphic. If your tv is a widescreen you probably have to set the DVD player to letterbox instead of widescreen to view this film in 2.35.

My FOD R1 is widescreen on one side and full screen on the other, my FDM is widescreen only.
