Very good noir, unfortunately the copy I saw is shitty both as to image and sound. But the investigation, told partially in flashbacks, is tightly led and there's no respite in the narration. Sure, some aspects of the story remain obscure (the girl dies of TB, is she an easy-going type or a nun? There's some mystery about her husband but we are not told what it is and so on) but that is only to be expected in a noir. Ladd is probably at his best here. 8/10
