There was a lead bandit in Seven Samurai? I don't recall seeing him.

He's the dude with thre eye patch.

The role isn't as beefy as Wallach's.

Bronson's charakter is really sympathetic and lovable. In Seven Samurai, the woodcutter charakter is too really so deep and humanist... and cute.

Poor Bernardo. I always cry for him.

I cringe every time I read threads that compare one film against another.
Each of these films have their attributes, of course, but it is just a matter of personal
preference as to which is "better". It's analogous to asking "which color is
preferred, blue or green?"... and trying to explain why.

I'm sorry to dissapoint you geo! Cry I wasn't trying to compare them, I was just asking which one do you prefer.

In middle of watching Seven Samurai now for the first time. It's difficult to get through, a it's a bunch of people sitting around, with sad faces and crying and crying and crying. I have no experience with Japanese culture (or more precisely, the Samurai movie culture -- the only previous samurai movie I have seen is Yojimbo); I still have about 20 minutes left in the movie, but there's no doubt whatsoever that I enjoyed The Mag 7 far more. How can you spend more than 200 minutes watching people crying?

Also, Eli Wallach's awesomeness is a big part of The Mag 7; in Seven Samurai , the bandits are just a bunch of nameless faceless people.

and btw, the subtitles of Seven Samurai make me laugh, they use all sorts of English slang. Like when the samurai bangs the girl, her father moans that she is now "damaged goods"; there's another scene where someone says "you hit the nail on the head"  Grin
