I was wondering if my favorite director and actor of all time got along while filming this movie, I know Kinski was a crazy troublemaker.

Kinsky was a trouble maker? I didn't knot this. I'm sure somebody here can clarify this.

If I remember right, here is something so I don't have to explain everything myself: http://www.fistful-of-leone.com/forums/index.php?topic=5636.0  Kinski is known as a very difficult person to work with.

Maybe that's where the line about Kinski in FDM "he doesn't like anybody" came from.

Kinsky had only good words for Leone and the shooting of the movie proceeded smoothly. I don't think he could have behaved badly even had he wanted to because:

1) He was a nobody at the time, except in Germany
2) His movie time was short
3) Leone could count on Brega to put Kinsky in line

Just imagine: Kinski makes troubles...

Sergio:

"Mario, teach him where his place is..."

Mario:

"Hey, ya german SOB. What do you want?"

Klaus (gets small):

"N-nothing..."

It was a joke, being Mario Brega is a big guy and a badass. He would have been the ideal guy to put Klaus in his place. He's Leone's hired gun.  Grin

Mmmm, I'd rather imagine it going like this:
(Pushing his finger on K.'s chest, starting to excavate a small pit) "Hey, ya german midget, we don't want that crap here, uh?"
"Yes, Sir."

I can imagine Kinski doing that just like in Woyzeck. Grin

How was Mario Brega in real life? I don't think he was an evil henchman...  Grin

To have a more precise portrait of him as an actor you should check his first two movies made for Carlo Verdone, where he plays a kind of low-brow roman character, speaking with his own voice and leaving us some memorable lines. It was those two movies which made him a (relatively) famous actor for the big audiences.

If only Leone had Mario to threaten the executives at Paramount when they wanted to cut Once Upon a Time in the West  Cool

Kinski was great as Dracula.
