I remember back in middle school this kid and I were having a debate which film was more violent, Braveheart or Gladiator.

Probably Braveheart as a whole. Gladiator has a few scenes that mirror Bravheart's viloence, maybe even more extreme.

FOTRE isn't that good. It starts out strong but peters out after the Intermission. I do think "Gladiator" is much better than FOTRE, although it's certainly weaker than "Spartacus". Russell Crowe is a great lead, while Stephen Boyd is a block of wood. Even though the supporting cast is better than "Gladiator", FOTRE is seriously flawed because its lead character is so weak and uncharimsatic. I'm torn between Christopher Plummer and Joaquin Phoenix being the better Commodus (will always thinking of Phoenix first), Guinness is a much better Marcus Aurelius than Harris (although to be fair to Richard, he has less screen time and less script to work with) and "Gladiator" has no equivalent of James Mason's great character, the intellectual Greek servant (at least to my recollection).

Not a surprised comment coming from a member here. No biggie. This is a great film and I'll continue to say it is here.
