If he stayed hidden, he could survive, perhaps. I don't think he wanted revenge - didn't seem to like Indio so much  Evil

Groggy was still a wanted man and Manco was there to collect his bounty. Groggy knew this. Manco would of tried hunting him down if he escaped. It's better for Groggy to try and kill Manco now rather than later. Sadly, he didn't succeed. This had nothing to do with El Indio.
