I noticed this film isn't in the index so i decided to make a topic on it. While i'm not a huge fan of horror films (some of them are just way too stupid) I LOVE the evil dead series.

I have to agree about how most horror films are stupid these days. However, I've never seen any of The Evil Dead movies. Which one's the best?

I need to see these movies, I want to see how bad ass Bruce Cambell was.

Sam Raimi's films are usually good, but I didn't like Spiderman 3 (or POTC 3, or Shrek 3). But I did like Spiderman 2.

it depends on what you want

if you want "the ultimate experience in gruelling terror" go for the EVil Dead

If you want a mixture of horror, action, and comedy go for Evil Dead 2

If you want to see Bruce campell in ultra-badass mode while he fights an epic amount of deadites go for Army of Darkness

Thanks. I guess I'll see the movies in chronological order. I've heard good things about Evil Dead 2, though.

Ah, a topic for the best movies ever made? As you can tell by my avatar and sig, I'm a HUGE fan of these films. Each movie is very different in tone from each other, like atlas pointed out, Army of Darkness being the most different. I like them pretty much in the order they were made in. The last 15 minutes of the first is pure cinematic gold. I recommend that you buy them all and watch them. Just make sure you watch the theaterical version of AoD first, since the "Director's Cut" isn't as good, IMO. I don't remember a whole lot of differences though, but the director's cut ending, which I admit sets up a possible sequel better than the theaterical, just isn't as fun as the theatrical. But at least get the DVD of the director's cut so you can listen to the commentary. The commentaries for these films are some of the best I've ever listened to.

Theres My Name is Bruce which is coming out. which is basically Bruce Campbell being asked by people from some town to rid of the spirites because they actually think he is Ash.

Yeah I can't wait for the above.

I, like BB, like them in the order they were made.

The first is best because it's the creepiest.
The second one had too much comedy injected into it I think.
And Army of Darkness is okay.
I enjoy the journey to find the book of the dead more than the big battle at the film's climax.

I also agree with BB that the theatrical ending is the best with Ash destroying a K-Mart esq. establishment to rid the world of one deadite.

Great series. While the 2nd seems to garner the most praise, I personally prefer the grittiness of the original myself.

I remember there was quite a bit of hoopla surrounding an upcoming remake a couple years back, but haven't heard much on it recently. I just wish Raimi would get his act together, and start focusing on a fourth and final installment. Damn him and his, "success" and making millions ways. *cries*

Oh well, i'd probably just wind up disappointed anyways. Now Phantasm, that's another thing all together.

Great series.
The first is obviously the best, the second is excellent and the third is a bit weak because of all the (very bad) comedy elements (+ the second part of the movie, with the battle, is too long and a bit boring).

Funny I was just preparing to read the comics.

The original is a great modern horror movie, but the low-budget look doesn't suit it as well as the more comedical sequels, IMO.
The part two is ****ing hilarious comedy, almost up there with Braindead.
The third part is pretty good too, but not as good as the other two. I'll second what FC said.

I won't compare the sequels to the original only because it would be like comparing Monty Python and the Holy Grail to The Shining.

Spider Man 2 really made want to see a new serious horror movie by Raimi.

There is that great scene in the hospital where Surgeons are trying to remove DOC OCKS tentacles!
Very Raimi horror.

I'm also partial to his western THE QUICK AND THE DEAD.
