With all the good movies out there and on tv, I thought it might be a good idea to have a running post that says when TCM or whatever channel is airing a western worth watching.  That way anyone who wants to watch them can do so or tape them.  Might be a good way to generate Movie Night or the new film discussion board.

  So, anyways here goes.

  Tuesday October 2
1:15 P.M. (eastern) They Died With Their Boots On (1941): Romanticized biography of General George Armstrong Custer and his last stand.  Cast: Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Arthur Kennedy.. Dir: Raoul Walsh.. BW-140 mins, TV-PG

3:45 P.M. (eastern) Custer Of The West (1968): The flamboyant Cavalry officer courts disaster when he fights the Sioux and Cheyenne tribes.  Cast: Robert Shaw, Mary Ure, Ty Hardin.. Dir: Robert Siodmak.. C-141 mins, TV-PG

6:15 P.M. (eastern) Geronimo (1962): A defiant Apache warrior tries to unite his tribe against the U.S. Army.  Cast: Chuck Connors, Kamala Devi, Ross Martin.. Dir: Arnold Laven.. C-103 mins, TV-PG

I've seen TDWTBO and its well worth a watch.  Caught Custer of the West this summer, it's got some good locations in Italy that will be familiar to spaghetti fans.  And Geronimo, I'm interested in seeing just to see The Rifleman as Geronimo!  That's gotta be interesting.  Smiley

Very good idea. I've seen some people post schedules, but none of them have ever had the suggestion of keeping it going. So, then their thread would become insignificant. Sad.

I checked the TCM website and sure enough, October's star of the month is Henry Fonda!  Guess we'll have to check each Thursday what movies of his are on.  As for those westerns, I've seen all of those but WTHT and The Rounders.  But any western with Fonda and Glenn Ford, I will most certainly give a try.   Well, I watched Custer of the West and Geronimo today.  COTW is still good in a "so bad, it's good" type thing.  And Geronimo....wow, I really didn't like it.  Don't even know where to start.

I didn't catch all of The Ox-Bow Incident and My Name is Nobody, but I've seen both before and enjoyed them.  I was able to watch Welcome to Hard Times and most of The Rounders (taped the last half hour).  WTHT was really good in a weird sort of way.  Kinda quirky western more typical of the 70s than late 60s, but still very entertaining.  Henry Fonda leads a good cast, but I'll save that for the Review the Last Movie You've Seen post.  Smiley

No westerns to speak of for this week's schedule, they're showing a lot of horror movies for some reason Wink.  But still, there's a few movies worth mentioning.  Looks like a revenge theme Nov. 2 with both Get Carter (the original with Michael Caine, looking forward to this) and Point Blank with Lee Marvin seeking revenge for getting double-crossed.

Also a movie on called The Secret of Santa Vittoria starring Anthony Quinn.  The description says "During WWII, Italian villagers hide their wine from the German army."  I might have to give this one a try.  Cheesy

I think this film also has future star GianCarlo Giannini in it

Don't you mean the future star of Casino Royale, Giancarlo Giannini? Grin
