I got a DVD-R of ROMULUS & REMUS yesterday and it has quite a pedigree behind the scenes in addition to being directed by Sergio Corbucci. Among the many writers for the film are Luciano Martino, Ducio Tessari, Corbucci and Sergio Leone. Steve Reeves and Gordon Scott star together in this one. The Paramount(!) logo appears at the beginning of the widescreen print of this film.

There's a really good German release of this one: http://www.amazon.de/Romulus-Remus-Steve-Reeves/dp/B000G6H538/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1239797467&sr=8-1

I watched this with my wife last night. In comparison to Leone's Colossus of Rhodes, this is a pretty poor effort from "the other" Sergio. I think with Colossus, you can already see Leone's quintessential style and humor emerging whereas this could have been directed by anyone.

If I remember rightly, Frayling says that Leone actually gave this movie as a gift to his friend Corbucci to direct.

But I prefer Romolus to  the Colossus.

Both contain nearly nothing from their later masterpieces, but Corbucci is here the better action director and his peplums have a better flow than Leone's.

But all in all both are at best fun to watch, but not too much fun.

In the end FoD and Django seemed to come out of the nothingness.

I disagree about Leone. I think there are many touches of irony and some great imagery in Colossus that do show signs of what was to come for Leone. Compare Colossus with The Last Days of Pompeii which, albeit directed by Leone as a favor, is not in the same league as Colossus. I do agree that Romulus & Remus shows very little of what Corbucci would later achieve.
