boomtowns - I think a wonderful example is Support Your Local Sheriff. Grin Of course, that one is mainly making jokes of the archetype, but you really can't get better archetypes than in parodies...
Well then, I'd like to include No-name City from Paint Your Wagon.

buckskins -  most iconic - Alan Ladd in Shane  but also Lee Van Cleef in Barquero

I'd add John Wayne as Hondo Lane in the buckskins category.

This could be a long topic with that list.... Grin

I'd also say Presbyterian Church from McCabe & Mrs. Miller

Hey cigar joe, don't we have (old) machine guns on the list?

''Il mercenario''
''Giu la testa''
''Per un pugno di dollari''
''Django''
''Sabata'' + ''Adios Sabata''

Yea but if we get picky they should really be in a Zapata Archetype list and not a Western Archetype List, no?  Wink

Agreed. In true Westerns, machine-guns are anachronisms.

bandannas - I've seen some really ridiculous looking bandannas in some Westerns (Lee Marvin's in Seven Men From Now, Luigi Pistillis in "Death Rides A Horse" and the kid that shoots Gregory Peck in "The Gunfighter" come to mind, they look somewhat effeminate, I wonder about some costumers sometimes, lol). John Wayne's & Eastwoods always look correct.

Living in Montana for 24 years I observed real cowhands and ex cowhands/construction workers wearing bandannas in the summer on the job. All of them wore them exactly like Eastwood's in the Dollars films, ie., folded tightly and tided tightly too, so that it looked like a band or choker around the neck, with the knot to the side. They would use it as a simple form of air conditioner. They would soak it throughly in water then fold it up & tie it on, the evaporation would cool the body.

But in a wind storm they could still use 'em to keep dust out their mouths?

But "gay or gay-like villains" could be added... just think the gay gang in Django Kill, White Snake, Stengel (I'm sure he's gay), Jack Palance's character in The Mercenary...
