Interestingly, in his memoirs (which I'm now reading), Mickey Knox makes the point that every film projected in Italy (at least in his day) got an intermission, whether it needed one or not, so the vendors could sell more snacks. (I've experienced this in other countries). The house would just bring up the lights at a mid-way reel break and resume, after a few minutes, with the next reel. That would mean there were intermissions for AFOD, FAFDM, GBU, West, DYS, as well as for America. Now, Leone wouldn't have necessarily planned for any of those intermissions, and we sort of assume that because of length he would have planned one for America, but maybe that's not the case. Is there any hard evidence anywhere that speaks to this issue?
