Just to let you know that I've just completed and uploaded a short The Good The Bad and The Ugly modern day location tour on YouTube.

Here's the link

Very Cool Ramon and thankyou!

One question that maybe you know the answer to or could find out, some of the locations look much more greener that in the film. Now the questions are is it because it has gotten wetter in Almeria in the last 40 years, or was it the difference in the time of year (season) Leone shot his films and the season of the year you shot your images, or maybe there were more goat herds roming around back then to keep the vegetaion down, or possibly its just 40 years of growth.

It would be interesting if you could find out for us.

I think that there's two main reasons Cigar Joe. One being seasonal in that I believe that most of Leone's movies were shot during the summer when everywhere is dry and brown whereas I tend to avoid the summer as its too damn hot. For example, the POW, bridge and Sad Hill shots were taken in early May. In fact it had been raining just a few hours before.  The other reason being the onward march of arigcultural development and irrigation, Almeria is now probably the biggest exporting region of vegtables in Spain. What was one of the poorest parts of Spain 40 years ago is now one of the richest in terms of the agricultural industry. Just take a look at Google Earth or Google maps just West of Almeria city and you'll see the acres of plastic covering the landscape.

When I was in Calahorra in November there was a massive amount of farming activity in the area where the Tucumcari railway line used to run, I'm sure in another 12 months it will look very differnt again.

Wow, that was absolutely incredible! :D

Do you live in Spain? It must have taken quite some time to collect and put all this together. I've been wanting to visit some of the key locations myself, I just hope the new GBU book is finished soon as that might help in planning a trip or two. Do you have any GPS-coordinates for the locations? This thing was so good it should be released as bonus material on a new GBU DVD/blueray/HD-DVD or whatever the next big thing is. O0

Thanks for all the kind comments.  I live in the UK but its only a 2.5 hour flight down to Almeria, I've got family who have moved to Spain so I'm a fairly regular visitor. I do have some GPS for some Almeria locations, if any of you are planning a visit to Spain drop me an email and I can send you some directions.

Bravo! Too bad Sergio is not around to see this. Outstanding research, photography, editing and music, even the ending had a Sergio feel with the stills and multiple cuts. I was waiting for a modern day "Ecstasy of Gold" circular panaramic blurred video from inside Sad Hill, maybe next trip or a possible re-edit addition.  Great job..one of the best 9+ minutes on-line! .
