Supposedly, the colors.

A friend and I were discussing that today. The movie has a yellow tinge to it but it always had that.

I hope this version is actually uncut (unlike the latest dvd).

Well I'll let you know on march 2nd.

I doubt there will be any material added back in (like the extra stuff in the Italian cut).

Here's what was reported in last year's Guardian piece:

Quote
Margaret Bodde, executive director of the US-based Film Foundation set up by Scorsese and others, says the American director, who knew Leone, had the idea of getting the movie restored after watching the DVD released in the US. "The colour was really not correct and the quality not up to what it should be," she says.

It will be interesting to hear your report on March 2nd.

Yeah FC keep us posted. If anything is actually restored (not much even if it is, I'll bet) that would be tres cool.

Prediction: The 'restored' version will be inferior to the past transfer. Didn't the newly restored Searchers have the same problem? Italians should have been in charge of this project.

I think they were. Isn't the Rome Film Festival run by Italians? Scorcese worked out the deal with them, and the restoration was done on Italian soil. At least, that's what we've been told.

That's encouraging news.

Can't wait to hear what's new (though it probably will just be the color).

(though it probably will just be the color).

If it is, I suppose that's something I can fix by changing the properties of my computer screen. Tongue Not that I'd be going to buy a new edition of it anyway, that's not me.

The last transfert was SHIT. SHIIITTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Scorcese new version will be the first time the movie is seen with the correct colors on DVD, and without that stupid scene where Bronson wakes up on the platform, which was never in the original cut.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, read Video Watchdog, or get off this forum.

All past OUATITW releases on DVD/LD = SHIIIITTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEE

Depends on what you call the "original cut" - cause that scene has always been in the italian cut....so it was meant to be there....

Just returned from the theatre.

If they decide to make dvd for this new transfer...

SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!

The evening began with this bozo (I'll give his IMDB page tomorrow since his name eludes me at the moment and his name is in print in my car), who is head of the reconstructionist department at Paramount, explaining that he was "surprised" that during their issue of "100 greatest Hollywood westerns" TIME neglected to mention OUATITW. Huh

Because of that statement I knew not to trust this guy's claim about the film being "uncut" and "how Leone originally intended" and in that aspect I was not disappointed.

The film I saw was the same version we all already own. Same stuff is missing and Bronson's rise from the dead is still intact.

As for the print itself, I didn't see a difference from the dvd we have at home...

When the screening was over I confronted the head dude and told him...

"This film is not uncut"

"You must be mistaken"

"No, I'm afraid I'm not"

I then explained what was missing and why the Charlie Bronson scene should not have been put into the film and he replied with a lie...

"Ah yes, I know about the scenes you have described but those were destroyed in a fire"

Shocked Grin

Holding back laughter I responded...

"Sir, with all due respect, but there never was a fire of any kind. The footage I described is still around. It is all in an Italian dvd that you can purchase at this website..."

I began to take out a pen and paper when suddenly he shouts...

"I HAVE A BUS TO CATCH! It was nice speaking with you though" (Some how I don't believe that)...

idiot.
