Hey guys, I was watching the trailer pointed out by Iceman in the other thread,

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=UjeU37hOels&feature=related

and something just wasn't sitting right. Besides the new shots iceman pointed out, something else was different. After much thorough comparison to the orignal film - it turns out that all the footage in the trailer is alternate takes and angles! I thought that news was worthy of its own thread!

I quickly put this video together to show just the differences in one scene. After scanning through and doing comparisons, I really think they must have just given the trailer guys in england all of their trims/outtakes to make a new trailer....

check it out:

If you guys want to see more I can do more comparisons....

Am I wrong in thinkin' that this trailer is on one of my 2-disc DVDs as well?  I know I've seen it before, and not on YouTube.

You are 100% correct, this trailer is included in disc 2 of the special edition as "original theatrical trailer".

It seems that other trailers have been made for Leone movies containing alternate shots and scenes deleted from the final movie release. A good example is the French trailer of GBU.

I just find it incredible that they would basically recreate entire scenes shot for shot(even the cutting style) from the movie using other takes - every shot in here is a different take than what's in the film- even simple shots like the "just might turn you into the law" scene, in the trailer, no cigar in his mouth, in the movie, cigar. The simple long shot of Mortimer talking about waiting for his share in auga caliente, different take again (although it seems they used the movie audio for the dialog scenes-look how out of sync it is on "just might turn you into the law" scene...I'm just guessing that they were rushing to get the publicity done and it was too expensive to make copies of the negative etc, so they just sent over everything they didn't use..going to compare the french gbu next, I wonder if it's entirely new takes as well as you guys suggest....

It would be interesting to know what the Italian trailers consist of . . .

Note how little screen time Clint has in this trailer.  Remember, he was not a big star in U.S. when it was released.

Hi all
If you notice when he shoots Red, in both clips he actually fires a split second before the gun points at Red so he probably would have missed...

Here's another trailer I found - contains some of the same alternate footage, as well as a couple more clips!

I think the trailers give to much of the story away, especially the important bits...like the ending for example where Manco suddenly appears with the watch and the robbing of the bank from the back and Mortimer shooting Calloway. I think as you are watching the film you would be aware of whats gonna happen next  in some of  the scenes.....

Too often trailers give away too much.
