Tuco almost didn't make it to the shootout.  He was almost dropped by a flying shovel.
Blondie gave a square shovel to Tuco for digging while Angel Eyes gave a spade (Devil reference?). When Blondie threw his it missed Tuco by a foot and a half, on the other hand When Angel Eyes threw his shovel it missed Tuco's head by... I'm guessing 1 5/8"...I think it caught Tuco off guard because he was leaning into the thrown shovel....OK at the most 1 3/4". ???

From what I've heard, LVC threw the shovel a bit too close when he should have tossed it farther away from EW.   He wasn't supposed to throw it that close.   That's from what I gather  - heard it from somewhere, but forget where - probably this forum when I was on it a couple of years ago.   Anyway, that wasn't supposed to happen that way - LVC tossing the shovel that close to EW.

I think Wallach mentions that in the DVD extras.  Yes, Van Cleef's throw is very close to hitting Wallach.

Well, I'm going to see about getting that DVD Special Edition 'cause I'd like to hear all about that scene, the shovel coming quite close to EW.   I wish I could remember where I heard that, but I do remember hearing about it nonetheless.

I don't seem to recall that.

The only anecdotes he gives (about almost being severly injured) is the poisen drink, the horse incident and the "would be" decapitation.

The shovel passes dangerously close to poor Wallach's head. I bet LVC heard it good later, when the filming of the scene was over.

I wonder id LVC threw ths shovel with the hand that was missing part of a finger...it could have altered his aim... or maybe his aim was true and like a good MLB pitcher he was just throwing a brush-back...hmmm. ;)

Well, I don't think LVC got hollered or screamed at, but I'm sure EW said something to him, though not in a rude or ignorant manner - probably just confronted him about it in a nice way, asking him why he threw it so close to him or what caused him to do it.   It very well may be a mystery in this movie that may never be solved, but just left for fans to ponder the reason(s) why.
