I don't care what AFI thinks is great.

They're tribute to Clint Eastwood omitted his SW beginnings.

That's absolutely laughable. I do you omit this guy's spaghetti western beginnings?!

He's not really held in that high regard, in America at least, so it's not too surprising (if perhaps unjust)

I appreciate the "perhaps". We're in Leone's board, after all.

1.The only westerns worth mentioning on there are UNFORGIVEN and SHANE.

Are you saying High Noon is not worth mentioning?  I know you don't like The Searchers or the Wild Bunch, but High Noon! HIGH NOON!

I had no idea HIGH NOON was even on the list.

Yes, it indeed was. The film John Wayne hated.

I didn't know about Wayne, but I knew Howard Hawks hated it (which is why he made Rio Bravo in response). Not that anyone cares, but I agree with Hawks. Still, I would have been surprised if it wasn't on AFI's list (from their point of view, no doubt, it's more than just a stupid Western).

Well Titoli, be sarcastic if you want. But lists like this are opinions, not absolute fact. If we put Leone's films on the list in place of someone else's, the fans of that director would go apes***, would they not?

I like High Noon... and Gary Cooper is better man as Wayne.
Only the final duel isn't so perfect, but it's no SW...  ;D

Hi...i am new here

I just want to say that AFI is the American Film Institute. They rank only films made by Hollywood. Regardless, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, and Once Upon a Time in the West is on more top western and all time movie list than I can count.

I am happy that they have High Noon and Unforgiven. Haven't seen Shane yet though.

Welcome Kevin! Good to see you here my friend.

I was also happy to see at least Unforgiven there which is one of my favorite films.

Criterion has screwed up the colors on their Midnight Cowboy release (yeah, I know, they're not really responsible for the colors, but anyway): http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare6/midnight_cowboy_blu-ray.htm
