Interesting article I found linked on IMDB. Not terribly in-depth, but it makes an excellent point.

The glance that makes holes in the silver screen

I agree with that guy that this decade has been great this far. I'd have problems picking up my top 10, which I can't say of the 80s.

The joy of loving is to live in a world of Mandom

The guy's argument is limited by his reach, which only goes back about 25 years. And who cares about initial reactions? We all know enough now to ignore those. Anyway, you never judge a period by its failures (there are always more of those than you can count), but by its successes--artistic successes, not boxoffice. In some ways the 80s were a very bad decade because it had so few artistic successes--but it did produce OUATIA, one of the greatest films ever made. Is there any film from the present decade that is comparable? Of course not. Would I trade all the cinema being made now for OUATIA if I had to? In a heartbeat. But take OUATIA out of the picture, and the 00s become a better decade than the 80s.

We're talking about Hollywood, I presume. Is there any decade that can compare with the '70's?

And talking about cinema, the '50's and '60's are unsurpassed.
