Blonde Venus - 7/10 - I don't have much to say, except Cary Grant was REALLY young. :o

Watched bits of Tombstone on the History Channel while flipping between that, the debate, and Pitt's stunning upset victory over South Florida (HAIL TO PITT!). It was awful - pan-scanned, edited for time-content, and commercials. The OK Corral gunfight was almost impossible to watch in that format. As bad as AMC, if not worse, though their commercial buffers about the Old West were okay.

Pépé le Moko - 8/10

Your typical '30s black-and-white romantic melodrama, with a young, hot Jean Gabin (+3 points), femme fatales, spies, traitors and the classic "ship departure" ending.

Much better the italian spoof made after the war Totň le Moko

Appaloosa - 6/10. See the dedicated thread for a partial list of my objections. I don't think Harris really wanted to make a Western at all.

I gave the film a 7/10. I thought it was a little bit better than you thought. However, you know the flaws I listed that I thought brought down the film a bit so I won't go into detail again. I'm happy you at least seen it jenkins.

You don't need to go into detail again, just give a link: http://www.fistful-of-leone.com/forums/index.php?topic=6182.15

Re-reading your comments I see that we have a basic disagreement. You thought Harris didn't come through as a director, but I thought his direction was fine. Just consider the shootout between Ed and Viggo vs. Lance Henriksen and his boys. That was very well done, I thought. No, for me, what fails is the writing. The script has too many problems, it wouldn't have mattered who directed it. That's the problem with most films, anyway; always has been.

The Truman Show (1998) - 9/10
I've seen this at least four times before and I'm surprised how well it stands repetitive viewings, there are just so many layers in it. A great satire, among the best movies of the 90s.

Grizzly Man - 8/10
The whole style caught me off guard, but still a damn great movie. I was thinking it would be like "Man vs. Wild" or "Survivorman", but instead it was about a complete fucking delusional idiot. Herzog is great though.

The Unbearable Lightness of Being - 6/10
The romantic aspects worked, but the movie tried too hard to have that 'epic' touch to it, and therefor ran over an hour too long. It seemed like it tried to be Reds, but failed trying. Day-Lewis was above average but not jaw-dropping like most of his roles (even he admitted to not caring for his performance in this). It's worth a viewing but one of the few instances where I feel theatrical re cutting by producers could have actually helped the movie, even against the director's wishes.

I have no idea why I haven't already watched this :-\

Poliisin poika (1998) - 8/10
Tapio Piirainen's (Raid) crime comedy featuring mostly the same gang of actors as in Raid. A lot funnier and zanier than Raid but the story is not very strong. It's incredible that there's no way getting this legally; it's never been released on VHS or DVD.

Great Richard Thompson score as well. Give it an extra point for that. O0
