Cinema Paradiso (1988)

A masterpiece, enough said.

Erik the Viking - 6/10

Watchable, but nothing compared to the former Python genius...

Hmmm, maybe not. But I can't believe making mawkishness longer improves anything.

Testament des Dr. Mabuse, Das (1933) Dir Fritz Lang, saw the beginning of this and the last 1/4 the other day on the IFC channel, it was very intreguing but I couldn't watch the whole thing.  But of what I saw it I'd give it 9/10, will have to put it on netflix if its not on IFC again.

How can you hate the 3 hr. version (you're a Spielberg fan for christ sakes)?

Tropic Thunder (2008): 6.5/10 Such a good premise but lack of any solid execution. It's all been said before really, the beggining is where the real laughs go down and even that wasn't all that great. "Satan's Alley" and the baby cucking scene toward the end were the highlights.

The Dark Knight (2008): 8/10 very good while managing to live up to the hype.

the 39 steps (1935) 8/10

Lol, I'm not  a Spielberg fan per se, he's pretty hit or miss.

The 3 hours version puts more emphasis on Toto's love for Elena than his love for movies. His love for movies is the greater, more touching part of the film while his love for Elena is too ridiculously sappy. I like a good romance film but it doesn't work in the case of the long Cinema Paradiso.

I haven't seen the long one in a while, maybe I'll watch it before school starts on Wednesday.

Speaking of Spielberg I'm seeing Raiders in theater tomorrow.

Bull. His love for Elena was more powerful than his love of movies. Movies was a passion of his and yes, he loved them. However, you can't replace the love of your life with anything else. Sometimes it comes around only once in your life, sometimes never. It's a gift to find the love of your life and Toto found his. It was very tragic that he never seen her again. The film is about much more than just the love of movies.
