Mr. Smith Goes to Washington - 10/10 - Absolutely brilliant movie, with some of the best acting in screen history by Stewart and Claude Rains in particular. This makes my Top 25 at least. O0

It's perfect timing, large one...

Actually, even though I don't feel like rating myself, I'm glad that the others do so. Especially if more people rate the same film. The bigger problem I see is, it's hard to find one film in the many many pages of this thread.

There are two kinds of films in this world:those which stay, even when their genre is forgotten, and those which don't.

The glance that makes holes in the silver screen

Boogie Nights (1997) - 7.5/10
I enjoyed it but it ain't no masterpiece.

Come Drink with Me (1966) - 7/10
Hu's done better movies, like Raining in the Mountain and A Touch of Zen.

Titles are a courtesy to the reader, to give him/her a heads up about what a thread will contain. You never know, somebody new may wander onto this board some day and start going through this thread expecting to see, well, ratings of movies. No one is saying (not even I) that every time a movie is listed it has to be rated; still, ratings should be done more often than not. Otherwise, in 2010, when most of the current board members are long gone, people will be posting things like "This thread is supposed to have ratings, man, where are they?" Of course, maybe there will still be enough people doing ratings then. However, if ratings are no longer of consequence on this thread, the title should be changed merely out of courtesy to our future readers.

That's what you get, Drink, for not appreciating the genius of When You Read This Letter.

Wow, are you kidding me? It doesn't ****ing matter. I like the title how it is. And I doubt other people on a message board (in the future) will give a **** whether its "Rate the last movie" or "Tell us the last movie" you watched. Two people want the title changed.... I'm not doing it.

Halloween - My second viewing after many years, for my film class. I didn't like it the first time I watched it, and this time I liked it a bit more but I still wouldn't put it high on the list. In terms of creepy atmosphere, it's up there with Argento's best work. The opening 10-15 minutes are brilliant, bravura film making, and the first half of the film is effectively creepy and suspenseful as Michael makes his presence known. But as so often happens with these kinds of movies, once the killing starts, it ceases being scary. Partly because the deaths are so silly, partly because of all the cheap scares leading up to them. The stupidity of the characters is also rather grating; I mean, if the characters would just turn their heads slightly to the right, they would be able to avoid Michael. ::) Also, Donald Pleasance has very little to do until the end, and seems at a loss to account for his presence much of the time. The rest of the cast is utterly workmanlike. And I found the music annoying as often as I found it scary. Not sure exactly what to rate it off-hand, somewhere in the 6-7 range. It has its good points but I'm still rather unimpressed by the whole.
