Why? Did he deem himself not mature/talented enough? Or was the lack of $ the problem?

Yep, he didn't think he had the maturity. But probably, I think, he wouldn't have been interested in the material. And rightly so. I think that he started going downhill with all time boring close encounters. And unfortunately he never fully recovered. A pity. Interesting watching his persona at 20 and as we know it since the 80's: two different people. Alas, again.

Boogie Nights better than ACO? Really?

Cape Fear (1991) - 7/10
It felt more like a De Palma movie than a Scorsese movie.

ACO is interesting and unique but becomes tiresome during the 2nd and 3rd acts. It's pretty decent but a long shot from Kubrick's best. I love Boogie Nights though. I'm watching it for the third time right now with PTA's commentary on.

And I hate Cape Fear...with a passion.

I thought Boxcar Bertha was your least favorite of Scorsese's movies and if I remember correct you gave it 5/10. Anything better than 5/10 is not hate, it's indifference at most.

Boxcar Bertha is more like a 3.5. Cape Fear is probably a point higher.

I don't think one would appreciate something like His Girl Friday at 12 more than they would at 30. Perhaps you'd disagree?

often, not always. I just happen to prefer more unexpected jokes and crazy humor. you know the kind that makes you laugh and at the same time you're thinking "wtf".

Hable con ella (2002) "Talk to Her" - 8.5/10
Which of Almodovar's movies are worth watching? This far I've seen this and Bad Education.

Oh, yeah, but I wouldn't expect a 12 year old to even see His Girl Friday.

Witness for the Prosecution (1957) - 8.5-9/10
The first 35 minutes in the apartment drag a bit but after that it goes smooth as a train. The last minutes are 10/10. Afro

Zulu   - 8\10

I had missed this all these years and found it very interesting in the puntilicstic depiction of a war episode not in racist terms. What I didn't like is:

1) little blood in the fight scenes
2) the unnecessary characters of the preacher and his daughter
3) the usual unheroic heroes-to-be.

Still the above elements are not damaging like in other products, so the movie can be enjoyed without cringing.
The visual quality of the dvd is far from the best, this waits for bluray to have justeice rendered.

Zulu is one of my childhood favorites. I grew up loving this film.

Swingers (1996)

Comedy classic not to be missed. Vince Vaughn is perfect here in his breakout role and Jon Favareu's script is brilliant.
