All About My Mother (1999) - 8/10
I watched it in honor of Almodóvar's birthday.  O0

I believe I gave a pretty accounting of my beefs with TMWKTM when I saw it a few months ago. The first half-hour is clunky exposition/scene-setting, with lots of obviously fake location work. Hitchcock and Stewart seem to be on auto-pilot (Day isn't bad, although that Que Sera song gets annoying before long) and the direction is rather static. The movie is diverting enough, I guess, but the whole is rather paint-by-numbers Hitchcock.

Gladiator (2000)

A masterpiece, period.

And yet you can't help chiming in one more time. A man who likes to hear the sound of his own keyboard, I guess.

Well, it's not like anyone's going to go trawling through the archives to find it.

Actually, I was quite wrong. Here's my review:

Quote
The Man Who Knew Too Much (1955) - 7/10 - It was alright, I guess.

Must be confusing this place with IMDB. :D

Since it's unlikely that anyone else on this board is going to see this unless you give more info, it would be nice if you could give us at least a one sentence synopsis.

Funny Games (2007)

One of the WORST films I have ever seen. Absolute garbage. I have no idea why great actors such Naomi Watts and Tim Roth took on this film.

After 12 years' absence a father comes back to his wife and two sons. Boys don't have a clue where their dad has been all those years or why he came back, that is pretty much the main tension of the film. The dad takes them to a holiday trip but that turns out to be far from an ideal vacation. Younger one of the kids is very negative towards his father, the other one kinda looks up to him and tries to get his recognition. The father is not exactly your ideal dad but he's a very interesting character. It's a low budget drama with few characters, very much centered around one place (an island), with a lot of subtle emotion.

Satisfied? 8)

The Stepfather - 4/10 - Ugh. Starts out okay but goes way into slasher movie overdrive in the last half. Watching this film shows why Terry O'Quinn never became a star; he goes into hammy overdrive as the movie goes along. Competently shot but clearly made on a low budget, with an annoying, intrusive techno score and a silly screenplay. The basic plot of the movie is lifted almost wholesale from Shadow of a Doubt (down to the scene where O'Quinn folds up a newspaper reporting his murders and gives it to a kid), and trust me - even Jenkins will be pining desperately for that film when this is over.

The Big Steal (1949) - 6/10
It's a very simple chase movie but I can't really find any major flaws in it except that it just isn't that great. There's some chemistry between Mitchum and Greer but it seems to go on and off. Fistfight scenes were impressive.
