Rub me the wrong way, and I'll go off in your face

Thanks a lot FC. I really appreciate it.

Also check out Blazing Magnums

I forgot to mention this film because it isn't very good but it has such an excessive car chase it needs to be seen to be believed!

Luckily, I found the car chase on youtube (although I think it is the cut version)...

...The original car chase clocks in at 10 minutes I think...
Haven't seen the movie in a while.

The Color Purple (1985)

Spielberg's first serious drama that I enjoy greatly.

I need to see that movie in its entirety because that car chase was great. 9 minutes is a long time for a chase but it was pretty damn good, great when considering the assumed small budget. I like how the scene slowly becomes more unrealistic as it unfolds, so by the time it gets completely crazy you're hooked.

On John Woo, I really like A Better Tomorrow. I can't say it's superior to The Killer and especially Hard Boiled, but it's my favorite that I've seen from him.

Claudia, we need you to appear in LOST COMMAND. It's gonna revolutionize the war genre..

That car chase was clearly shot on an open street, I guess the budget allowed permits but most of these movies didn't have the budgets for permits so they shot their car chases on the fly.
Which is why most of the car chases in the genre are done in congested streets.

I'm watching a new film from this genre every week so I'll let you know if I run across another worthwhile movie.

Nothing in here is as exciting as the walrus hunt but it is worth watching.

The glance that makes holes in the silver screen

What comes to Woo, I'll watch Bullet in the Head, Once a Thief and Hard-Boiled in the order they were released. BTW, there's another Woo box around which has "A Better Tomorrow 1-3". The third instalment has nothing to do with Woo, has it?

Justus järjestää kaiken (1960) - 5/10
If it had been play by an amateur theater I think I would have enjoyed it better.

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan - 0/10 - Second viewing, I didn't "enjoy" it as much as my first viewing. Probably as bad as a slasher movie could possibly get. Although it has its moments of amusement (like when the obnoxious uncle gets stuffed in a can of toxic waste) it doesn't even come close to the camp-tastic Silent Night Deadly Night flicks. And the title makes no sense since two-thirds of the movie takes place on a cruise ship.

D.O.A. (1950) - 6/10
Too many names and too few faces make the plot hard to follow.

what I love more than surrealism is the people trying to digest it and put meaning to everything. because there is no meaning. AND I LOVE IT.

Paranoid Park (2007) - 7/10. Kind of an after-school movie, but rated R (not sure why). The Christopher Doyle photography is very interesting and it presents a different kind of Portland than the one I know. There's not a lot of plot (the film is only 86 minutes long, about a skateboarding kid who witnesses and may be responsible for a tragic accident, and it feels at times like it's being padded), but the dialogue and the way it's delivered has the ring of authenticity. Kids in this movie actually talk the way kids on the West Coast talk (there's a hilarious bit where the hero's younger brother is describing scenes from Napoleon Dynamite, the telling perfectly suited to that stupid movie). It has an interesting soundtrack, too, a combination of cues from Fellini's  Juliet of the Spirits and Elliot-Smith-like tunes (some actually by Elliot Smith). Huh, a young teens' art film.

That's what you get, Drink, for not appreciating the genius of When You Read This Letter.
