Slumdog Millionaire
- 8/10
A bit too flashy and sort of a mess at the beginning but starts to come together as the film progresses. A very good, uniquely told modern love story. I don't think it will win many Oscars though, besides maybe Art Direction and Editing. Oh, and it was a bit too similar to
City of God
at times. Really similar.
1) The Dark Knight (9.5/10)
2) Slumdog Millionaire (8/10)
3) The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (6.5/10)
4) Tropic Thunder (6.5/10)
I didn't feel Slumdog Millionaire was anything like City of God.

1) Themes of innocence and morals in shitty place
2) Based in foreign slums
3) Friends + family reducing themselves to violence in lowly gangs
4) Very similar filming style/very documentary-like looks a lot like it.
there.

Sunset Blvd. (1950)
- 9.5/10
Some of the voice-over was unnecessary but otherwise it was great.

It looks fucking great. I can't find a theater down here in San Diego that's playing it though!

Unnecessary from a plot standpoint, but entertaining nonetheless.

The Wrestler
- 9/10
Enthralling, magnificent character study. Mickey Rourke deserves the Oscar-hype attention he's getting, as he gives a remarkable performance. The film examines mistakes, hope and hopelessness, aspirations and dreams, love, and morality. One of the best character-driven stories of the decade and certainly worthy of several Oscars - Best Actor (Rourke), Best Supporting Actress (Evan Rachel Wood), and Best Original Song (Springsteen) are necessary wins. Best Picture is also a very good possibility, though for some reason I don't see it being nominated. Definitely worth a viewing.
1. The Dark Knight (9.5/10)
2. Revolutionary Road (9/10)
3. The Wrestler (9/10)
4. Slumdog Millionaire (8/10)
5. Shine a Light (8/10)
6. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (6.5/10)
7. Tropic Thunder (6.5/10)
8. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (5/10)
9. Hancock (5/10)
10. Rambo (4/10)

Once Upon a Time in America
- 10/10
My bi-annual viewing and I still refuse to believe I will ever watch a better movie. Each and every viewing brings new depth and meaning to the film...it's absolutely perfect.

The Fugitive - 8/10
Nice movie, Tommy Lee Jones is awesome. Sewers scene gave me "awww-déja vu" feelings.
