Young and Innocent (1937)
- 5.5/10
The plot was pretty stupid. Isn't the closest family always checked first and only after that you go and accuse a totally random guy?

Frost/Nixon
- 8/10
Really good movie, though something about Ron Howard's style annoys me. But still one of the best of the year.
Also, I'm switching the positions of TDK + The Wrestler on my list. The second viewing really left a much greater impact.
1. The Wrestler (9/10)
2. The Dark Knight (9/10)
3. Revolutionary Road (9/10)
4. Frost/Nixon (8/10)
5. Slumdog Millionaire (8/10)
6. Appaloosa (8/10)
7. Man on Wire (8/10)
8. Shine a Light (8/10)
9. Iron Man (7/10)
10. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (6.5/10)
11. Tropic Thunder (6.5/10)
12. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (5/10)
13. Hancock (5/10)
14. Rambo (4/10)
15. Jumper (2.5/10)

Good to see you liked Frost/Nixon RR. I hope to see it this weekend.
John Adams: Peacefield
- 8/10 - Liked this one a LOT more the second viewing than the first. It's a bit upsetting to watch all of the characters you've come to know and (mostly) love slowly die off one by one, which is undoubtedly why I didn't much care for it the first time around, but they keep melodrama to a minimum (inevitably there is some) and Abigail's death scene in particular is extremely moving. The best part though is the exchange of letters between Adams and Jefferson, which is marvellously done and some how very moving. And though Adams claims to have been transformed by his long life and experiences, it's amusing to see him chew out John Trumbull for his inaccurate painting of the Constitutional Convention. A nice if very sad ending to a great series.

Duck, You Sucker!
- 8/10 - 2nd viewing of the extended cut. I'll try to have a write-up for my blog tomorrow, which I'll dutifully post here, but it will have to wait until morning...

The Italian Job
- The Caine version. It seems that in England this is a cult movie, based on a unsuspected inferiority complex of Englishmen towards Italians (and that before their national team started losing matches against Italy). I don't think it was a succes in Italy at the time (in fact, when the dvd was released over here, they didn't maintain the title given at the time by italian distributors but kept the english original) and for an hour it is quite boring, the comedy of it passing me by: the
bloody doors
catchphrase is it supposed to make you laugh?. The coup it is even worse, rather goofy. I won't go into the quite awkward italian dialogues sometime recited phonetically by english actors, the rather unjustified Benny Hill presence, the vaudeville mafiosi, and so on. But the car chase is good, sometime great (though one can't understand why the truck couldn't stop and let the minis easily enter inside of it instead of making it so complicated) and the finale unexpected. The score is very brilliant. 7\10

I liked it upon seeing it the first time also, but I never took it as serious comedy just humorous caper film, the big selling point here in the US was the mini car chase, that is what stood out (at the time of its release I didn't even know who Benny Hill was, lol)

Jarhead (2005)
- 6+/10
Rips FMJ off quite a lot. Oh, but that musta been those "homages"... Nice imagery but sometimes too "nice-looking". And I liked the soundtrack. Overall it's basically good but brings little new to the genre.
what genre?

Then where does the remaining 90-100 minutes take place?

Desert. I guess the "big point" of the movie is that the main character goes through a war without even once firing his gun.
"War" was the genre I meant. IMO it's pretty much FMJ meets Apocalypse Now meets Three Kings and very little anything new.
Sabrina (1954)
- 7.5/10
The first half an hour felt pretty dull but it got better towards the end. Not the best of either Wilder, Bogie or Audrey Hepburn

Bite your tongue. It's true the film goes into high gear only after Sabrina comes back from Paris, but then it careens from joke to joke at speed. The bit where Bogie gets Bill Holden to sit on the champagne glasses always has
me
almost in stitches. And Audrey was never more winsome--I like her here better than anywhere else. No, this is one of Wilder's finest.
