In Bruges
- 8/10
Even better than the first time. Collin Farell, who i don't really love, is really touching in that one. Nice job by the director, good acting, and very good dialogues. But the big strenght of the movie is its screenplay. They don't do it that way anymore

Agreed! Except I rated it higher.
Man On Wire - 9.5/10
What an amazing story.

Cry the Beloved Country
- 7/10 - A nice enough film, a bit stiff and dry in places, but with great performances by James Earl Jones and Richard Harris. John Barry contributes a score which borrows heavily from his Zulu score - not necessarily a bad thing. A pleasant, enjoyable movie that at least helps take the bad taste of The Reader out of my mouth.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008)
- 8/10
Allen can create situations and characters that feel real, eventhough it got a bit melodramatic towards the end.

I just got back from an Off-Broadway performance of Martin McDonagh's "The Cripple of Inishmaan" (the first play of his Aran Trilogy) and was very impressed. I come to find out that this great playwright is now a film director, the very guy who wrote/directed
In Bruges
. When I saw the trailer for this film I was totally turned off, but trailers can be unreliable. Now that I kinda understand what McDonagh is about (stage Irishness and post-Tarantino riffs on established genres) I'm more than willing to give this film a try. Just let me find the Order Now button at amazon . . .

Exactly. The trailer for In Bruges was god-awful. The film is nothing like what the trailer tries to represent. Good choice, Dave.

The trailer is what intrigued me to watch it.

The Reader
- 5/10
It's alright but still a pretty dull, cliched romance-drama. Worst of the 4 Best Picture noms I've seen. Great performances all around but nothing else to talk about outside of that. And the plot(s) are nonsensical.
1. The Wrestler (9/10)
2. The Dark Knight (9/10)
3. Revolutionary Road (9/10)
4. Frost/Nixon (8/10)
5. Gran Torino (8/10)
6. Slumdog Millionaire (8/10)
7. Appaloosa (8/10)
8. Man on Wire (8/10)
9. Shine a Light (8/10)
10. Burn After Reading (7.5/10)
11. Iron Man (7/10)
12. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (6.5/10)
13. Tropic Thunder (6.5/10)
14. The Reader (5/10)
15. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (5/10)
16. Hancock (5/10)
17. Rambo (4/10)
18. Jumper (2.5/10)

The Wrestler
7.5/10
Beautiful movie with very few flaws... but NOTHING new. I have already seen every single scene, every single character. Good dialogues, good performances... and do I really have to say it? Mickey Rourke is impressive. Wow.
Taxi Driver
9/10
First time I enjoy it that much. I'm still not feeling anything for Travis, but the movie rocks. If only I could do that.................. I wouldn't fear for my career anymore. Never.
There is an audio commentary by Schrader on the DVD... I'll have to hear it as soon as possible.
