The best of Castle's "gimick horror" films is The Tingler.
House on Haunted Hill being a close second.

Glengarry Glen Ross - 5/10 - Man, what a disappointment. Dreary, slow, talky and uninvolving. Great acting by all concerned, but what's it in service of? Perhaps the worst kind of filmed play, one that does virtually nothing cinematic at all, and quite frankly I wasn't crazy about Mr. Mamet's dialogue, other than a few nice bits like Baldwin's monologue at the beginning.

Uncinematic or not, Groggy with his 5/10 is completely lost. How can it be that I, who doesn't speak English as his native language, can appreciate the great dialogue but a native speaker cannot?

yes, it has. how can the movie be improved, by what, tacking on more locations, which would only kill the film's break-neck pace and momentum? there is a place for the stage adaptation. is 12 angry men blemished for not leaving a courtroom for 90 mins? sorry, dj, I just don't understand the validity of the argument, especially when GGR's claustrophobia impacts the movie tremendously.

Kiss Kiss...Bang Bang (1966) I saw this in the year of release and I remembered the first scene and nothing else. Well, at least Nieves Navarro's naked bottom (vaguely seen while she's taking a shower) should have stuck in my memory but probably I was too bored already to pay attention. The movie is parody os spy-movies but you laugh rarely. Nicolai's score is so-so. Nieves Navarro is the only reason to watch it.  5\10

I think you misunderstand my point. I'm not advocating any particular method of adaptation here. I'm just saying there are many, many ways a film version of the play can be rendered, and although the one version we have (so far) is good, there may be better versions yet to come. The way the film is, it is just a particular production, one that happened to get filmed. But plays are constantly being revived: that is their nature. I can certainly imagine a version with different--and possibly better--performances, and I say that even though I find no fault with the acting in "92".

Finally, I wasn't even thinking of "opening out" the play to make it seem more cinematic--I was thinking more along the lines of simply employing cinematic grammar more. I agree that adding a feeling of claustrophobia can be helpful--but one doesn't need to resort to stagy-ness for that, cinema has its own methods of conveying claustrophobia (cf. Das Boot).
