Not quite following you. 12 Angry Men has exceptional montage, while Glen Gary Glen Ross not so much. An interesting comparison (I'd imagine) is to look at the original TV play of 12AM side-by-side with Sidney Lumet's film. I've never seen the original, but I'm pretty sure it looks like a filmed stage play; Lumet's film, on the other hand, is a fully realized work of cinema. Its stage origins are completely transformed.

Meaning Luhmet follows traditional cinematic values. If GGR took a similar approach, using lenses to highten tension as the movie progresses, it would be chastized for aping the film, no? What else could the director of GGR (his name escapes me) have done? I guess we just have to agree to disagree, b/c I think GGR is one of the finer movies of the 90s. To be honest, I don't even think it's all that stage-y, stage-y enough for it to work, I suppose.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973) - 8/10. Bob Mitchum in a film by the guy who made Bullitt with a score by Dave Grusin. What's not to like? An unusual role for Mitchum, though: he plays a loser who keeps on losing. If you're a fan of 70s "realism" this is about as authentic as it gets. Star Trek (2009) - 0/10. Same old crap, done crappily. And what's with all the lens flares?

Crank 2: High Voltage (2009) - 9/10. I laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed. Gotta take a point off for the Ron Jeremy cameo--this creature is woefully, er, overexposed. Also the racetrack rutting was a lame joke carried on for too long. Otherwise, everything was brilliant. Really liked the Mike Patton score. And it's great the David Carradine can still get parts as a Chinese guy. And Dwight Yoakam was a scream.

Star Trek (2009) - 8/10 

I liked it quite a bit. I wasn't expecting anything good. I was never into Star Wars or Star Trek, never liked the bits and pieces of the prequels of Star Wars but seeing as the franchises have their similarities I expected this Star Trek film to be a commercialized version of what the hardcore fans wanted it to be... I thought "no thanks" but I was pleasantly surprised. Good action sequences, likable characters, decent sets and CGIs, it reminded me of Starship Troopers.

Yeah, I noticed the lens flares too but they didn't bother me too much, thankfully, because there were a lot of them.

Me too. Except that ST (1997) was brilliant satire, and ST (2009) takes itself seriously. And therein lies the difference between good film and bad.

Agreed with 90% of that. I think the quality dips slightly towards the second half but picks up again for the final few minutes.
And yeah that Porn star strike joke was pretty lame.
