Charge of the Light Brigade (1968) - 7/10 - Sort of a cross between Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Strangelove. Not very subtle in its satire, but it hits more than it misses; the battle scenes have lots of scope but the set-up is better than the actual fighting. Trevor Howard, John Gielgud, Harry Andrews and David Hemmings are all excellent, but the romance subplot with Vanessa Redgrave is tacked on and stupid. Richard Williams' creative and clever animations are probably the best part of the film.

HMS Defiant (1962) - 8/10

Captain Alec Guinness is wise and good, First Mate Dirk Bogarde is young, hot and evil. Mutiny occurs. (Spithead and all historical stuff.) Kinda a mix of Bounty and Potemkin.

Master and Commander - The Far Side Of The World - 10/10

I fell in love with it. Humor, drama, philosophy, battles, sea storm, beautiful ship, good actors, lovable characters. All you need for a good adventure. Russell Crowe with blond hair and sideburns is quite sexy. Includes a lot of pretty men. All-male casts rock.

Ah, I see. You like the Sturges comedies that aren't actually funny. Well, at least you're being consistent.

Actually I like them because they feature Walter Brennan.

Paradise Now (2005) - 7/10
Story of two Palestinian friends who are to commit a suicide bombing. Interesting and even moving but in the end too careful and politically correct.

Major Dundee - 8/10 - Umpteenth time. I hadn't seen this movie in over a year and I still knew about 90% of the dialogue from memory.

Didja do the "stings" each time in unison with the soundtrack?
