And of course there's always Linda Darnell . . .
Yeah, sure.

Jackie Brown
- 8/10 - Better than Reservoir Dogs, but not as good as Pulp Fiction. Pam Grier was excellent (and extremely stunning), and Robert Forster was great as well. The movie was a bit slow and I occasionally had trouble following the plot, but overall the movie was well-crafted, stylishly directed and full of well-drawn characters. Based on what I've seen though, I'd hardly claim this to be an atypical Tarantino film as others have - not that that's a bad thing.

Hoosiers
(1987) - "Greatest Sports Movie Ever". Uh? 6\10 only because of the impeccable Hackman's performance.

I assume the title is relative, because most (note most) sports movies suck.

That means you'd give PF a 9 or 10? Huh, I'm surprised.

I'd give Pulp Fiction an 8+.

I can't think of one (discounting boxing) sports movie that I consider to be good or even above average.

Claudia, we need you to appear in LOST COMMAND. It's gonna revolutionize the war genre. What did you think of the script?

I don't like AGS but I agree with the first two, especially Bears.

A Shot in the Dark
(1964) - It should have been trimmed of some ten minutes toward the end (the 4 murders by Lom are too repetitive) but is funnier than I remembered. 7\10

I had the whole Clouseau series taped when I was a kid but there's not much I remember anymore... But, the scene when Herbert Lom jumps in the swimming pool that turns out to be covered is hilarious, couldn't forget that even if I wanted.

About Sports Movies: the best SM I've watched is
Slap Shot
, from 1977. George Roy Hill directed it, it stars Paul Newman, Strother Martin and other less known actors. It's a fucking blast! Hilarious, well written and directed, with one of the best performances ever from Paul Newman. I think it was even awarded as best SM ever somewhere. Entertainment rating: 10/10, classic rating 8.2/10.
Hossiers
sucks its own ass through a straw. Pathetic, blank and predictable. I didn't much care for Hackman either. From what I understand the coach he was playing was really supposed to be based on the legendary psycho Bobby Knight, and if so he didn't even come close. Not to mention it seemed none working on this movie knew jack about basketball. Rating: (a more than generous) 4/10
Now, if you wanna see basketball movies based on Bobby Knight you should definitely look for William Friedkin's
Blue Chips
, from 1994, with Nick Nolte, J.T. Walsh, Mary McDonnell and Ed O'Neill (and a supporting cast composed of well known basketball faces such as: Bob Cousy, Penny Hardaway, Shaq O'Neal...). It is debatable what's the true value of this movie (it's full of standard SM cliches), but it's entertaining as hell. Nick Nolte is very good playing a character indirectly based on Bobby Knight, and the rest of the cast is watchable. Rating: 7/10
A Season on the Brink
from 2002 is bad, but Brian Dennehy is unbelievable. Watch only him, ignore the rest.
North Dallas Forty
I haven't seen, but it just happens I'm waiting for a copy in a few days from now. I've heard it's very good.
Remember the Titans
I liked. It's a Disney movie for family, sport fans and kids, a bit cheesy. From what I understand it's full of factological horseshit, but who cares really. It's OK.
Any Given Sunday
I liked, somehow, although it seems done for MTV.
Mr. Baseball
is benign crap.
White Men Can't Jump
is a decent one, for those who like basketball, and pop culture references.
