His TV work (The West Wing and especially Sports Night) is far superior than his films, in my view, though Charlie Wilson, A Few Good Men and The American President are all worthwhile.

Apparently his next project is "Untitled Facebook Movie", though, so make of that what you will. Cheesy

Heat - 8/10 - 2nd viewing. I liked it significantly more than the first time around. I really appreciated the character depth of the movie, and every actor is pitch-perfect. The shootouts of course are among the best of their kind.

Yep.
It has one major flaw which keeps it from being an flat-out masterpiece:
The girlfriend of Deniro. It simply is not believable that a YOUNG  woman with her positive attibutes, including looks, would fall in love with that character and run away with him If only they had cast an older actress in the part....

The Trial of Billy Jack - -10/10 - 2nd viewing - I somehow decided that I had too much enjoyment and happiness in my life and needed to bring myself down a peg. On the other hand I may well at last have a summer job in the pipeline.

I've always liked the way the love scene was edited, moving back and forth in time. I wonder if The Getaway provided some inspiration?

Yeah, but Donald Sutherland naked is something nobody should ever see.

North Dallas Forty (1979) - 5.8/10

Far from great, actually. I guess they were trying for the drama too hard, and didn't realize it was the comedy elements they should focus on. But then again, they couldn't really do that, because the movie would be just another Slap Shot rip-off.
