Well they say in one of their evening in front of the campfire the Wendols once used to live where they are now, but got pushed off further North as the Homo Sapiens (''the civilized man'') advanced, and in a couple of generation they forgot all about them. Then as the winters went harsher they started to reappear in the warmer places searching for food. So they never called them by that name but it is implied that they share characteristics that are hard to overlook. Also, those blond-haired fellas weren't much civilized themselves. Wink

Is it one of those campfire stories in Norwegian / other Scandinavian languages? I've realised the Czech dubbing version I saw doesn't have subtitles at those so I might be missing something there.

There are two kinds of films in this world:those which stay, even when their genre is forgotten, and those which don't.

Can't remember exactly but very probably yes.

Hercules in New York - JACKED/10
Purple Rose of Cairo - Pretty decent, unique romance
Zelig - Mildly amusing, fairly disappointing, incredibly original

if anyone cares to hear more about my thoughts on these let me know...but I really don't feel like it right now

Why so serious?

Red River (1948) - 8/10
The ending felt rushed to me.

Rosso (1985) - 7/10

Delete that. 6/10 sounds more like right.

This boards high norms of professionalism don't allow me to accept that capricious change of opinion.

Well I enjoy Woody's wonderful combinations of comedy and drama in movies like Annie Hall, Manhattan and Radio Days... but The Purple Rose of Cairo and especially Zelig I just didn't find all that funny. Cairo is at least a decent drama, while Zelig only works as a comedy, where the humor feels a bit too forced throughout. Some of the narrative dialogue and comments from Zelig did get a chuckle out of me, but overall it didn't work well outside of the creative mockumentary approach and the way the story of Zelig was told.

I've seen five movies from Allen so far and they're all definitely seen positively by me, even the last two mildly disappointing ones I watched.

Oh, and the ending of Red River honestly ruined the movie for me. It was decent, pretty good movie up to that but I don't think I want to watch it again. All that tension between father and his "adopted" son built up, the climactic fight... basically put to a cop-out ending with "Stop guys thats sooooo meaaan come on!!!!!!" and then they instantly forgive eachother. Yeah, right. That would happen.

I think we're all pretty much in agreement on this. But the bad ending needn't be an obstacle to rewatching the movie, which has many good things going for it. Do what I do: start the film but cut out early. Then, in your own mind, imagine a better ending.

One thing about RR I think I prefer to, say, the Mutiny On the Bounty pictures is the fact that the mutiny comes well before the hero meets the girl. In the Bounty story, you can never shake the idea that Mr. Christian is ultimately motivated by the need for more poontang, whereas in RR the conflict is clearly over leadership issues. Makes things more interesting that way, imo.

True Romance-10/10

What a fantastic film. If only Tony Scott had directed Natural Born Killers as well.

J˘i-uchi: Hairy˘ tsuma shimatsu/Samurai Rebellion (1967) - 9.999/10. Second viewing. The ultimate slow-build-to-orgasmic-massacre film. Mifune and Nakadai together again for the first time. The shot of Mifune running through the long grass at the end put me in mind of The Big Gundown. An almost perfect movie (ending is just a little too drawn out).

I like the randomness of those two picks.
