I'm waiting for Jinkies to show up and give his insightful assessment of the film. :D
Okay, here it is: a well lacquered turd is still a turd.

and now have seen Tuco Harmonica's signature.

What did you think?

And CP is surely very sappy and I completely understand why DJ hates it; his feelings resemble my thoughts for movies like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and Sargeant York. I guess I'm fooled lol.

Stay away from the three hour cut. I like it, but it was way over the top.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle - 7/10
Liked the acting, great setting, go MASSACHUSETTS YAYY!!!!

Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters - 9/10
As Ebertfag says, one of the greatest most unconvential biopics ever. You could say the same to 'I'm Not There' but that movie fuckin sucks.

American Boy: A Profile of: Steven Prince (1978) - 3.5/10

Couldn't digest it. The stories didn't sound sincere and on the top of that were mostly dull.

I guess I would reverse the scores. Mishima suffers from the fact that the biographical material is less interesting than the fabulous literary adaptations. Eddie Coyle, on the other hand, is so low key as to appear unremarkable, but improves upon better acquaintance. Mitchum's role there is probably the most surprising of his career.

Eddie Coyle was just got sorta boring, and I can't imagine it has any value to re-watch. Mishima entertainmed me throughout, and the visuals + methods of storytelling blew me away.

But I'd definitely rank American Boy a lot higher than that, I may even like it more than Italianamerican. It's nothing more than an hour long interview but every single story that man tells is intriguing.

I watched it earlier today and the only story of his I can remember is about him running an illegal business selling some sort of bakery products in a Jewish neighborhood.

Though I am intrigued in finding out whatever happened to him after that interview, he wasn't in anything for the next twenty-something years. Not that I thought he could have been a real actor, but he said his family was happy about him becoming somebody in Hollywood, it sounded like it was a done deal.

I'll try to find this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1372718/

She has a nice bottom.

It reminds me a lot of Godard's Contempt, especially the vibrant color scheme and exotic locale.

Its less than optimistic portrayal or view of women has to make it some sort of proto-new wave film or something. It's a personal favorite, just a beautiful movie to look at -- Bardot doesn't hurt the cause.

Nous ne vieillirons pas ensemble/We Won't Grow Old Together (1972) - 10/10. A couple in a self-destructive/mutually-dependent dysfunctional relationship keep trying to break up, and finally succeed. Maurice Pialat's second feature, based on his (apparently semi-autobiographical) novel. The woman in this is a doormat, the guy a total jackass (when things get really bad between them, the guy seeks solace by complaining about his girlfriend to . . .  his wife--hey, they're French!) Well-observed character study, mostly of anthropological interest, but done about as well as this kind of thing can be. Highly amusing.
