Yeah I got that.
Still not interested.
I don't even like that Damon character.
you mean "that Damon character" the actor, or "that Damon character" the role he plays? Cos it isn't necessary to like the character, as the film's a satire.

Haven't seen the movie but I remember Anthony John Denison being watchable in the 80's TV series Crime Story, alongside Dennis Farina and others.

Speaking of Gotty; there's another TV version made in 1996 or 1997 (I think), with Armand Assante. I kinda liked it.

The former, although there isn't much of a difference to me.
I can't see him as anything other than Matt Damon.

Joe, you scored this one too low. At least an "8", I'd say. For the ending alone, I give it a "9."

Watching Donnie Darko right now. After half an hour, it's worth around 3/10. Terrible acting, bad directing, bad editing, awful music. The script seems to have a few interesting stuffs, but it would require a real scriptwriter to avoid the clichés.

What was all the hype about??

THE GREAT SILENCE

Sergio Corbucci must have had one hell of a rough childhood!
or as Fran Morriss put it (in answer to what kind of childhood he had) "short"

Vastly overrated and the English dubbing was terrible - they simply recorded over the dialog with no attempt to make it it sound locational
it was kind of cool though to hear Kinski's Wild voice from FAFDM

Suspicion - 8/10 - A solid Hitchcock entry with great direction and cinematography and a really well-constructed plot. Joan Fontaine is gorgeous; Cary Grant plays against type without really doing anything out of character. I'm not sure what to make of the ending; it's definitely a cop-out but it didn't really bother me (and the alternative would have been pretty obvious).

You are completely correct. The ending we have is bad, but the alternative (found in the source novel) would have been so much worse. In the original, the Cary Grant character actually poisons his wife, and the wife, who has figured out what he intends to do, just goes along with it! Ridiculous.

The reason I like the film (ending aside) is that Cary Grant does a very good job of alternating between Mr. Charming one moment and Mr. Sinister the next. We think we've got a handle on what he's up to, and then a revelation comes that throws everything into doubt; then there's a reassuring explanation, but that lasts only until the next twist comes. The fun is over once we really understand the character, once we know if he's just eccentric or a cad. Things could be managed better, seems to me, if the nature of his character were left perpetually in question.

For that he'd have to die, maybe through some kind of selfless act (or what appears to be a selfless act), or, at the very least, disappear. Then Joan Fontaine would find a letter he left explaining everything. But then there would be a twist on even that ("Johnny Asquith? Why, he died in Argentina years ago!" OR "That's not Mr. Asquith's handwriting!" OR Joan Fontaine bumps into Leo G. Carroll one day: "No, we weren't really related. I was paid to play a role. Mr. Asquith stage-managed everything").

This is one film where only ambiguity can provide lasting satisfaction.
