Simple, but enjoyable enough.

Roger & Me (1989) - 7.5/10

Not as good as his more known documentaries, but pretty solid considering it was the first.

Is Paris Burning (1966) a cast of thousands that includes,   Jean-Paul Belmondo,  Charles Boyer, Leslie Caron,  Jean-Pierre Cassel,  George Chakiris,  Alain Delon, Kirk Douglas,  Pierre Dux,  Glenn Ford,  Gert Fröbe,  Daniel Gélin,  Hannes Messemer,  Yves Montand, Anthony Perkins,  Simone Signoret,  Robert Stack,  Jean-Louis Trintignant,  Pierre Vaneck,  Marie Versini,  Skip Ward,  Orson Welles, even Karl-Otto Alberty the German tank commander in "Kelly's Heroes" and many others that unfortunately dissapates the narrative a bit too much, characters appear and dissapear much too quickly but the story itself about the liberation of Paris during WWII is great. It reminded me of "the Longest Day" very similar if you are familiar with it, its got a very catchy soundtrack main title by Jarre, 7/10.

It does tend to put the viewer to sleep doesn't it?
I don't think I've ever finished the film.

Governor Michael Dukakis - 5/10 - giving a speech here in Oakland as part of an internship seminar, and I got to talk with him one-on-one for about three-four minutes. On the plus side, he seemed like a nice guy who was genuinely passionate about what he talked about (the importance of internships and public service). On the other hand, he rambled like nobody's business when I was asking him for advice, and he shakes hands like a limp-wristed squid. So, a bit of substance, but a complete failure in the style department; needed a more talented politician to make it work. No wonder the dude lost in '88.

Sounds like a cool movie but I've read very mixed reviews.

It is a film (Is Paris Burning) that actually would have worked better as a mini series, but that animal hadn't been invented yet.

Death in the Garden (1956) - 6/10. A Mexican Bunuel, shot in Eastman Color, with Michel Piccoli, Simone Signoret, and Charles Vanel. Mostly a genre picture (but recalling at times The Wages of Fear), with the odd Bunuelism thrown in. The Broken Star (1956) - 4/10. Basically an example of Bad Cop Noir, dressed up as a Western. Howard Duff does his usual charming no-goodnick turn, and dull Bill Williams plays his colleague buddy who doesn't want to believe that his fellow marshal has turned to the dark side. Mostly uninteresting, there is one nightclub/saloon spot that now plays as camp: a singer who intones "I hate you, I hate you, I hate you" while lashing the air with her bullwhip. Think I'm kidding?
