Nine (2009) - 1/10. Makes 8 1/2 look like a masterpiece. Daniel Day-Lewis can't manage a credible Italian accent to save his life, but at least he gets to drive a nice car.

Sherlock Holmes (2009) - 7/10. The Holmes franchise re-imagined as the Bond franchise, complete with a take-over-the-world plot, a final countdown, a Jaws-like henchman, and Professor Moriarity doing his best Ernst Stavro Blofeld imitation (they should have shown his shadowy presence stroking a white cat). Still, very entertaining, although not worthy of a re-watch. No need anyhow: the sequel is surely on the way.

Sherlock Holmes - 6-7/10 - More or less in agreement with Jenkins, disposable, predictable but well-done popcorn entertainment. The story was pretty clcihe although I did like the clever way in which the plot was unravelled towards the end. The action scenes were generally good though a bit too much slow-motion was employed; humor was pretty predictable, semi-clever pseudo-wit with the punchlines telegraphed well in advance, and I didn't get more than a few chuckles here and there out of it. London certainly looked nice and the CGI wasn't too egregious. Nice musical score for certain. Downey played Holmes pretty much as Jack Sparrow PI, which is what I was expecting; Law was okay, McAdams stiff and annoying, supporting cast full of good actors with little to do (always nice to see James Fox though).

The Ladykillers (1955)

Unfortunately hadn't noticed that the italian release has no subs of sorts, and not wanting to watching it dubbed, most of the dialogue got lost on me.

So I give it a 7\10 because once the killings start the movie has no more surprises in store.

The Road - 8/10

Hillcoat succeeds again. Nick Cave's score is wonderful. Viggo Mortensen deserves, at least, another Oscar nomination.

Ok for 8/10, but I really didn't like the score. It was ok although pretty easy to do in the action/suspens scenes, but terrible in the contemplation moments. I have the feeling i could have composed it. Which is never a good thing.

Edit. Really, you think that's terrible in the contemplative moments? The soundtrack is worth the entire film alone.

I just figure the more times you get nominated... the more chance you have at eventually winning? Like how the Academy is going to give Jeff Bridges the Oscar this year.

I was really just being ironic/sarcastic about the professionalism and everything else involving the Oscars.
