SUPER 8
Why does everybody here hate this movie so much?

I didn't. Presumably you mean Jenkins, who was disappointed in the lack of an Avengers tie-in, and Mr. Power, who's Mr. Power.

They replaced it with cheesy lens flare effects. Just as annoying.

Lol!

I thought you didn't like it. I remember you really liking "The Case", but not the real stuff. I'll read your review again, it's not burried too far.

RotPotA (2011) - 5/10. A kind of remake of CotPotA (1972). I'd guess about 80% of this is CGI. Only about 2% is devoted to photographing the amazing practical effect called Freida Pinto. Isn't there something wrong with this ratio?

The plot doesn't completely suck if you're willing to grant the film its major premise (i.e. that science is actually magic). For the Apes to rise, of course, the humans have to fall, and the movie takes care of audience sympathies by making the various primates hairy humans who walk funny. So then it's just a case of rooting for the underdogs--er, undersimians. It's mildly entertaining, especially if you can spot all the clever nods to Apes '68.

Ride With the Devil - 8/10 - Beautifully shot, morally ambiguous and very well-acted. Definitely a keeper.

MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS (1974) 8/10 first viewing.... very very enjoyable; Albert Finney was terrific; the cinematography was great; a spectacular score, and great direction by the late great Sidney Lumet. Finney was nominated for a Best Leading Actor Oscar (losing to Art Carney in Harry and Tonto); Ingrid Bergman won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress; and the score was nominated as well...

The Godfather Part 2.... this is actually only the second time i have seem the movie beginning to end (the first was over 10 years ago).... great movie, we've heard it all yada yada yada. i'll just make one comment: as good as De Niro was, I think Strassberg should have beaten him for Best Supporting Actor

The Three Fantastic Supermen (1967) I had lots of fun with these movies when I was in my preteen years, but today it is hard to stand by this stuff for a hour and a half. If only they had cut it 20 minutes I could have given it a 6\10. As it is 4\10 is the right value. I wonder how Tony Kendall could have a cinema career at all.

Asterix and Cleopatra (1968) I like Asterix both as a cartoon and animation (I still have to try the movies with actors). I think this is the best of the lot, I saw it in a theatre as a kid and liked it even this time. The italian dubbing, with the ancient romans speaking in modern roman dialect, are a gas. And so many of other dialects and accents used for other characters. 7\10

I've watched this twice and both times came away with a feeling of ambivalence. Must be the weak score.

Three Supermen in Tokio (1968) Much better than the former episode mostly thanx to Borgese amateurish but effective mimicry, much preferable to Nick Jordan's acrobatics. The scenes of minitiaturization are another plus, as the exteriors shot in HK and Tokio. Still the running lenght is too much, so it's 5\10.
