The glance that makes holes in the silver screen

What on earth is The State of the Things?
Der Stand der Dinge (1982), by Wim Wenders. Interesting but not his best.

EDIT: I think it's usually spelled without the second "the".

For me, classic is anything above and including 4/5.
About, 35 out of the thousand movies I've seen have a rating of 4.5+/5

Yeah, I could probably count on one hand the movies I'd give a 10/10.

For me, some movies have gotten a 5/5 because they've grown on me over time. I think OUATITW and OUATIA are on their way there.

Der Stand der Dinge (1982), by Wim Wenders. Interesting but not his best.

His best for me. Closely followed by what in English is called Wings of Desire.

And for me there are many 10/10 films. More than 100, maybe more than 200. I haven't counted them.

It would be disappointing if there were only a handful of masterpieces.

I can give a movie 9/10 and still consider it a masterpiece. All ratings and rating scales are relative.

Well there are about 150+ movies which I've given 4 or above/5.

I rarely give movies a rating below 4 and above 8. That makes the difference between a 7 and an 8 very questionable.

I've rarely given ratings below 2/5, and for me, a movie has to do something special to make that jump from 3/5 to 4/5.

A 9 has some flaws, or is simply not that fantastic. Masterpiece is reserved for 10.

All boring films are 3 or less. And there are many. Probably half of all films.

A 4.5 means the movie was so frustratingly close to perfection but had a small moment which took me out of the experience. E.g. OUATIA, 4.5/5, if that rape scene wasn't so long, I would've given it 5/5.

Lured (1947) Director: Douglas Sirk Stars: George Sanders, Lucille Ball, Charles Coburn. Serial killers in London is murdering young women whom he meets through the personal columns of newspapers; he announces each of his murders to the police by sending them a cryptic poem. Ball looks great as a taxi dancer, an OK time waster. 6/10
