That's pretty cool. Has she been in anything?

Small bit parts & extra work these I remember:

Always
Ten Stories Tall
Salt
Flight of the Conchords
Orange Is The New Black
The Carrie Diaries

a film with a working title of Asbury Park in Feb.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial 9/10

This aged impressively well. At least way better than Spielberg's previous attempt at SciFi, Third Type Encounter. What aged poorly however are the CGI they added (it was the anniversary edition, with a couple terrible CGI shots and with walky talky instead of guns): E.T. shouldn't be too visible.

Most movies nowadays lost this sense of magic that went with sloppy special effects: they knew they couldn't show everything so they spent more time showing you details from the creature and more importantly the reactions of the actors, which does a lot. The dinosaurs from Jurassic Park aren't cool because of good special effects, they're cool because of this:

 We need this magic back.

To celebrate the arrival of Eric Rhomer l'integrale (all 26 films, on 30 DVDs and 22 Blu-rays):

L'ami de mon amie (1987) 8/10. There's a gag at the end of the film that I don't think I noticed before. After the two couples have shuffled partners and confirmed their new pairings they are presented in a final four-shot. In the center is the central ex-couple, and both are wearing blue tops and white bottoms. On the outside are their new partners, both in green. I also suddenly realized that the blue-white characters are dark, the green characters fair. It's like the whole film was arranged just to get these four people in those clothes into that final shot. Good thing I didn't look at the cover art before playing the disc--that final shot, the film's big pay-off, is what is represented there. Talk about spoilers. (Oops! Is this a spoiler? Sorrrrrrrrry!)

The Devil Is a Woman (1935) - 7.5/10

Now that's the almost best you can pull of a romantic comedy.

Half ass watching American Hustle (2013) another SAG screener, sort of reminds me of Goodfelas, not as good, don't like Bale, the story isn't very engaging up to this point and its during the Disco Era  Tongue.  Another film I'd never pay to see.  Wink

Yea, very reminiscent, I can't think of another one off hand, BTY Bale looks ridiculously like Andy Kaufman's, Tony Clifton character.

Bale was the only character who was a character; the others were caricatures.

The Age of Innocence (1934) 7.5/10 [TCM]

I haven't yet seen the Scorsese version, but it's near the top of my Netflix queue.

This is the second Irene Dunne movie I've seen [the other was Ann Vickers (1933)]; she's a terrific actress. I'm definitely gonna try to watch more of her movies.
