WHEN EAGLES DARE - 8/10
Caught some details I somehow hadn't already caught the last previous 15 viewings.

I assume you saw it on TCM? I dvr'd it and will watch it eventually - I have never seen it yet.

Not to mention the Nazi Titanic movie. Which is where Cameron borrowed the scenes of steerage passengers being locked below decks.

It is not true that - once the danger was realized and they knew there weren't enough lifeboats - they kept the steerage passengers out and gave preference to the upper-class ones?

I've never read from a reputable source that steerage passengers were actually locked below-decks to drown.

I also read somewhere (probably wikipedia) that the family of Will Murdoch sued, they claimed the part about him firing on passengers was BS - and the filmmakers didn't deny that they took liberties with that. Is that true?
If it is true, IMO that is absolutely disgusting, even though this is Hollywood, to make it seem as if this man is a murderer when most viewers would believe it is terribly wrong (as opposed to, say, movies about the gunfight at the ok corral, which everyone knows are horseshit).

You are correct. There are rumors that one officer committed suicide (either Murdoch or Wilde) but none that any passengers were actually shot. There was also outrage that they showed Murdoch accepting a bribe from Billy Zane's character, though that bit seems more ambiguous - Murdoch's too distracted by his job to think much of it, and later throws the money in Cal's face.

Found this site re: the Titanic discussion. Apparently there are many conflicting reports about what officers fired shots, at whom and when:

Years ago i read a lot about the Titanic (mostly children's books, when I was a kid), I seem to recall one book said Murdoch may have committed suicide.
But the movie shouldn't have shown Murdoch firing on passengers if that didn't happen - they would have only been right to show it if it is 100% certain that it DID happen. If some unknown officer(s) did shoot on passengers attempting to jump into the lifeboats, then the movie should have shown the shooting being done by an anonymous or fictional officer, rather than unfairly sullying the memory of a real person.

No, it was a DVD.
Fun fact 1: I have never read anything about the production of this movie, but they say on the back of the DVD box that Eastwood removed a lot of his lines from the script. That would support what he said about the first script of FoD.
Fun fact 2: at some point, a character calls Eastwood "a punk". The way Clint reacts as well as the emphasis on this line made me double check the year of production of the film. It really looks like a Dirty Harry homage (but it isn't: the film is from 1968).

No, it is a cinematic catastrophe.

People who like this film are furthermore not allowed to write anything negative about Convoy, which is an incredible masterpiece compared to this mess.

Kangaroo: The Australian Story - 5/10 - Reputedly the first Hollywood movie shot in Australia, it's a tepid epic of bushrangers and cattle ranchers. Feels like an Outback Western complete with cattle drive, outlaws and natives, and American (Maureen O'Hara, Richard Boone) and Brit (Peter Lawford, Finlay Currey) actors playing Australians (real Aussies like Chip Rafferty are used as local color, not unlike the myriad kangaroos and reptiles). The cast seems bored, with O'Hara drifting in and out of an Irish accent, though Boone's a fun villain as usual. Some nice photography and a decent set piece or two (you don't often see characters dueling with bullwhips) but the story's DOA.

Not only that, but a second-rate punk.
