Hannah Arendt - 8/10 - About the intellectual's coverage of the Eichmann trial and the backlash it generated. Very good biopic, though it simplifies many of Arendt's arguments (and those of her detractors), probably inevitable in a film. Points though for showing Arendt as brilliant, but prickly and arrogant as well; you can see how she rubbed many the wrong way. Barbara Sukowa is excellent.

The Odd Angry Shot - 7/10 - Here's a rarity, an Australian movie on the Vietnam War. More about the day-to-day drudgery of military life than combat or political posturing. Not bad, some familiar faces in the cast (Bryan Brown, John Jarrett).

Tobacco Road (1941) - 2/10. The photography is amazing; otherwise, this film is a complete POS. It serves no purpose other than to make God's Little Acre look good by comparison.

Gravity 9/10
First BRD viewing. On a big screen, in 2D. Not half as immersive as the "IMAX experience". Awesome film anyway.

Tonight's BRD: the Wolf of Wall Street.

I just said I am going to (attempt to) drop out of these restoration-speculation threads until the discs are released..... but now these fucking discussions about piss-yellow and shit-brown are popping up all around the board  Sad

Only David Fincher manages to get beautiful yellow shots. TSN and TGWTDT are full of yellow scenes. They look great.

The Fugitive (1993)

It's never tiresome to view this memorable thriller.

The Executioner (1970) - 6/10. Sub-le Carré, with George Peppard, Joan Collins, George Baker, and Charles Gray. Oskar Homolka makes a cameo. Environs: London, Athens, Corfu. Decent body count during the climax. The plot is pretty standard Cold War wack-a-mole, or maybe whack-a-mole, with Peppard doing the whacking. There are a couple of rather dreary twists. It kept my interest but I felt a bit let down at the end. Still, if you're coming off a George Smiley/Harry Palmer high and jonesing for something more, you could do worse.

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) - 8/10. In the future, homo superior is nearly extinct because of an unbeatable mutant-hunting army of androids called Sentinels. In a last ditch attempt to save themselves, Dr. Xavier, Magneto, and Kitty Pryde send Wolverine's/Logan's mind back through time to occupy his body in 1973 and prevent the Sentinels from ever being created. This is an X-Men film with a bit of The Terminator and a whole lot of The Day of the Jackal thrown in. I remember liking the basic storyline when it appeared in the comics in the late 70s, but I can't remember it well enough to comment on the many changes that were certainly made (although I'm pretty sure Nixon wasn't in the comic). Bryan Singer directed.
