Queen Margot (1994) - 7/10. 1080p of 2013 4K Restoration. The St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre and aftermath, as envisioned by Alexandre Dumas and Patrice Chereau. The acting is consistently over the top, and the lighting for most part is totally BS, but the plot keeps ticking along. The 2-and-three-quarter-hours runtime flew by.

Never seen it. The photography was acclaimed at the time but from what I've seen I'd be on your side.

I wouldn't say it looks bad, and they went out of their way to make the lighting as unobtrusive as possible, but you still end up with nighttime scenes that look like they were shot in the middle of the day. And Chereau is on record claiming he didn't want his film to look like a series of paintings, so there may be a certain virtue in his approach, although the result is images that don't impress.

The King of Comedy (1982) - 7.5/10

It's not masterpiece but its unpretentiousness is captivating and charming, plus you get a fittingly stoic performance from Jerry Lewis and another great role from De Niro: the true selling card of the whole movie. I guess nobody believed for a second Bobby wasn't gonna burst in flames at some point, and the best of all is - he didn't.

I guess this doesn't quite qualify as an oxymoron, but if one would reduce the oxygen in it the title left standing would get close enough.

Abbott and De Niro were still married at the time they did this, and knowing that has always made their scenes together more enjoyable for me. A very funny film.

Two Dollar Bettor (1951) A bachelor father bank employee John Litel gets hooked on horse racing and Marie Windsor, and embezzles bank funds in an attempt to recoup his losses, with Steve Brodie. 6/10

You bet. They put aside their differences, worked together, grew as individuals and saved their dear ones and probably the whole world from the invasion plotted by menacing extraterrestrials. None of which can be said about Django.

Django is the birth of a hero. While CvA causes the death of a myth (Harrison Ford).

Nah, nobody cares about Harry Ford in a film about Olivia Wilde.

''DU marks the undeserved death of an old anti-hero, while CvA only proves Harrison Ford's career has been dead for a long time now'', more likely.
