Yep DJ's a weirdooooooooooooooooo but the film is great. Definitely somewhere between 8 and 9/10.

so an 8.5 fits your definition of "great"? You're the weirdoooooooooo  (I hope you explained this on the "Post your movie rating system" thread  ;) )

Please note that it could be a 9. But of course 8.5/10 is "great". When I scored 17/20 in high school it was absolutely considered as great by everybody, although it was also easier to score than to shoot The Graduate.
(of course I did. There aren't 50 movies in this world that have reached 8.5 or higher.)

Then 8,5 is too high for The Graduate. ;)

I give it maybe also a 8,5, or maybe a 9, but it not even in the top 200. Maybe I watched more French films than you.

so your 8.5/10 is basically equal to my (and probably most other people's) 9.5/10  ^-^

But The Graduate is one of the 50 greatest movies of all time????

Bob Roberts - 7/10 - A more strident and partisan version of A Face in the Crowd, with Tim Robbins as a right-wing folk singer running for the Senate who croons about killing drug users and welfare recipients. Gore Vidal, ostensibly playing his liberal opponent, delivers Gore Vidal lectures on the military-industrial complex. Lots of cameos by notable faces like Alan Rickman, Bob Balaban, Susan Sarandon and Giancarlo Esposito. Also, a young and fairly skinny Jack Black.

what about Bob Robertson? Does he make an appearance?

Yes, but "most other people" have not been to school in the US. Many people have worked very hard to get a great 16/20 for years if not decades (my case) of education.

But The Graduate is one of the 50 greatest movies of all time????

Yes, yes, it's not only a rumour, and some are even not that bad. And this guy Jean Lic ... Jean Lac ... Jean whatever had an enormous influence on filmmakers from whole big Luxembourg, which changed something ... not sure what exactly, but something. Ahh check Wiki ...

Forget about J-L Re-Tard. Check out these great pre-New Wave classics from the 50s:

Hiroshima mon amour (1959)
Pickpocket (1959)
Le dos au mur (1958)
Assassins et voleurs (1957)
Voici le temps des assassins... / Deadlier Than The Male (1956)
Un condamné à mort s'est échappé ou Le vent souffle où il veut / A Man Escaped (1956)
Touchez pas au grisbi (1954)
Caroline Cherie (1953)
Le salaire de la peur (1953)
Madame de... / The Earrings of Madame de…… (1953)
Thérèse Raquin (1953)
La fête à Henriette / Holiday for Henrietta (1952)
La Poison (1951)
Journal d'un curé de champagne / Diary of a Country Priest (1951)
Les enfant terribles (1950)

Wowza, That's Entertainment!

Gabriel Over the White House - 4/10 - That classic political drama advocating fascism as a cure for America's ills. Not even that interesting as a curio, it's mostly boring.

Murder in the Cathedral (1951) 7/10. T.S. Eliot's verse drama--about the martyrdom of Thomas a Becket--adapted for the screen. It is actually more of a pageant than a drama, where the words take precedence over the images. Interestingly, the lead role was assayed by a real C of E priest who had never acted professionally before. The other parts are played by London stage actors of the day--Leo McKern makes his first screen appearance here. This film was unavailable for decades, and the BFI have recently released it in a handy dual-format edition. I'm glad to have finally seen it.

Thanks. I actually watched the shorter cut, I think. I'll have to do a comparison of the two, but I suspect the shorter one is to be preferred.
