I don't share the love for DYS. I WANT to like it, but I just can't. I mean, it's better than anything almost anyone else can make, but for me it is clearly below Leone's other 5 movies.

and btw, RE: the score, the main theme is great, but I hate the March of the Beggars theme

Don't forget the other films Leone made. He made actually 9 films.

Whatever one's personal impressions are, I think we can all agree that MNIN did not live up to its potential. The concept was brilliant and some of it was executed well on film too.

I can definitely agree. Leone agreed too, by the way.
Still better than two thirds of the dollar trilogy.

It's almost impossible to put "a" in front of world's end when the world in question in the present Earth. If you are talking about one of the many worlds of a solar system or the galaxy or whatnot then you could. But when speaking of our home, this reality, the cosmos in general, English requires the definite article (because the thing we're speaking of is unique and indicated). Eliot provides an example: "This is the way the world ends/ This is the way the world ends/ This is the way the world ends/ Not with a bang but a whimper." The Drunk from The Birds says repeatedly: "It's the end of the world!" Sometimes, however, no article can be used: I think Paul Theroux has a collection of stories called World's End where World's End is a place name. World's End would make a good name for a production company or an SFX group.

Heaven's Gate - 4/10 - A beautiful, glittering pile of whale shit.

Absolutely love it. One of my favorite films.

Don't forget the other films Leone made. He made actually 9 films.

You're stretching it waaay too much. He only made 7 that he would agree were actually "his" films rather than carrying out other people's desires or delegating his desires to to other people.

Yes. Your rating is too high, though. Again.

Well, we can discuss that Pompeii thing, but he doubtless directed it, but MNIN is for me definitely his.

For me it's 9 films.

Heaven's Gate

Flawed, yes, but a good film though. In parts overwhelming. 8/10

Even if you don't like any Hill scene, you should absolutely love every Fonda scene.
If not for Fonda's scenes, this would be more like a 2 for me. A great film is there, but it's weighed down for me by attempted "comedy" that's even more annoying than it is unfunny.

Of course I disagree. The routine with the revolving dummy with the outstretched arms that Hill uses to clobber the baddies has me falling on the floor every time I watch it.
I saw that scene (and the slapping in the bar scene) as an attempt to do Chaplin - but it comes across as even less funny than the physical gags in You Don't Mess with the Zohan.

I hope Firecracker comes back one of these days, DYS deserves way more love.
I agree with the other parts of your comment though. My Name Is Nobody 4ever, although the decision to suddenly change the epic climax into a corny Powerpoint presentation is unforgivable.

DYS all the way. Fuck the haters.

I kind of enjoyed the Powerpoint presentation, it was one of the more interestingly edited parts of an otherwise noticeably poorly edited movie. Plus, it wasn't the finale finale, there's always the "historic shootout" at the end.

A World's End 8/10
It should be something like my fourth watch.
It's still the less funny but also the most impressive technically (acting, writing, directing, editing) wise and the most moving of the whole Corneto trilogy. Simon Pegg's best acting ever.
You all suck. All of you.
This is the only one in the Corneto trilogy I've seen, I liked it. But I expected I'd like Shaun and Hot Fuzz more. Will get to them soon.

No, 8!

Hot Fuzz all the way. In Hot Fuzz, the most referenced film being:

Point Break 3/10
I had somehow avoided watching this piece of sh*t for decades, but I just spent an evening working while Point Break was playing in the background. I get what worked at the time, though.
PS: The gay subtext makes Foxcatcher look homophobic.

I always wonder at people who proclaim Point Break a masterpiece without apparent irony.

I knew this debate was coming. I am referring to the 6 movies in the Dollars and Once Upon a Time trilogies (which means now we start a debate on whether there are trilogies or what the proper title of DYS is and whether Leone directed part of DYS .......)
