Only starting? Wink

Have you seen SILENCE?
What's the got to do with it? After your review of Dillinger you've lost all credibility.

Only after that review? Wink

Passion 3/5

Enjoyable thriller from De Palma and a major bummer I didn't get around to see it in theaters.

Summer of Sam - 4/5

New York sure looked like the place to be in '77.

The Killer Inside Me - 2/5

I enjoyed it when I first saw it in theaters. Then i got around to reading Thompson's novel and it's one of my favorites. Tragically, I re-watched the film and saw that I didn't care for it like when I first saw it.

Hero (1992) 7/10
Very fun. Hoffman at his best.

The 2010 version with Affleck or the 1976 version with Stacey Keach?

The 2010. Haven't had a chance to see the other one.

Nocturnal Animals - Tom (not John) Ford

Visually and thematically rich film. 8,5/10

The best thing the 2010 did IMO was keep the story in the correct time period.

I agree. What about the 1976 version? Is that any good? From what I've been reading and from the glowing review in Barry Gifford's Out of the Past: Adventures in Film Noir, it seems as though the 1979 French film Serie Noire is the best adaptation of any of Jim Thompson's work. Shame that the Blu-ray doesn't have any english subtitles  Sad

Don't forget Peckinpah's The Getaway

Its a good movie but with the film losing the last chapter of the book, I wouldn't say its the best adaptation.

The 1976 version is done in the present (70s) and it's not very film noir-ish.

My favorite Thompson adaptations are Hit Me (1996), This World Then The Fireworks (1997), The Grifters (1990), and The Kill-Off (1989) and Coup de torchon (1981)

Yes, but films should be only using the books, not trying to be faithful.

I read the novel once, and the film is much better than the novel.
