Not only works, people. I remember when titoli could mount a coherent argument, just a few years ago.

Not talking about those, like you, who never could.

loved this, one of my favorites all year. Long for its genre and lack of plot? For sure, but I was never bored.

It all went downhill when they starting driving in a car rapping along to 'Rapper's Delight'. That scene goes on and on then the movie started going on and on. Glad someone can enjoy it and a shame I couldn't.

The Killers (1964) - 6.5/10

Don Siegel's charmingly unpolished piece features a lot of known faces doing their cheese-best and very HC third-grade acting (it could pass for a falsetto, almost) and a plot so full of nonsense and holes it almost makes you think it was done on purpose. But it all is kinda entertaining, if for anything then for the fact that it confirms that old saying: the worst actors make the best presidents.

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore

8/10

Great, Oscar-winning performance by Ellen Burstyn.

Diane Ladd (Oscar nomination) and Kris Kristofersson are really good in supporting roles.

From Caligari to Hitler (2014) - 7/10. A 2-hr documentary on Weimar cinema, included with the Caligari MOC steelbook. The observations and conclusions of the filmmaker seem specious to me (e.g. social critique where none is demanded), but the large number of clips (from films both famous and obscure) makes the whole enterprise worthwhile.

Based on Kracauer's book?

Always enjoyed that last shot of a real drunken Lee Marvin stumbling and falling on the grass.

Right. How did you know?

Right what? The observations were the filmaker's own or Kracauer's quotations?

El sur (1983) 8/10. Spain in the 50s. This is huge improvement over Spirit of the Beehive, in part because it is a true Bildungsroman. The adult world begins, for the heroine, as a mystery, but one whose secrets are gradually revealed. Further, a voice-over indicates that events are being remembered, so childhood impressions are less inchoate than they may have been otherwise. Aurore Clément appears briefly in a film-within-the-film.
The new UK blu looks pretty good, the better to enjoy the Rembrandt-inspired lighting scheme for interiors. I'm now thinking this is a "9/10" film.

It occured to me later: this wasn't a compliment, in case anyone was wondering.

The Warriors - 4/5

I own the Ultimate Directors Cut which is possibly the worst version of the film. Got myself a copy of the original released DVD of the film and what a revelation that this exists in a digital format.

Robocop (2014) 5/10
Average remake/action flick saved from the  soulless syndrome by its powerful cast (namely Kinnaman, Oldman, Keaton and even SL Jackson)
