Speed (1994). Best action movie of the 90s.

My Cousin Vinny (1992). My favorite feel-good movie.

The Lodger (1944). Laird Cregar was a brilliant actor. I don't think I've ever felt that sorry for a serial killer.

Beat Girl aka Wild For Kicks (1960): Gillian Hills (before she became a pop singer in France) is a teenage girl rebelling against her father (David Farrar) and his new French wife (Noëlle Adam) in beatnik London. But when she finds out a secret about her stepmother, it leads her to a stripclub owned by uber-slimy Christopher Lee... Odd mix between serious elements, bit of a thriller, and straight up exploitation. Most of the acting is campy if not atrocious, with over-the-top hip lingo used by the teenagers (or maybe they were really like this, no clue). But... I loved every minute of it, it somehow draws you in. With a score by future Bond-legend John Barry (first UK soundtrack released on LP as well). 7/10

Saw this on the BFI blu-ray, which has 3 versions. I think CJ would absolutely love this one.
The version I watched includes this striptease: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sovCLK6Z3yg  Cheesy

Definitely leaning towards exploitation a bit.

He really was, yeah... Have you seen 'Hangover Square'? It has a similar feel, and he's also outstanding in it.

Hangover Square is the one where he is the composer right, and it has Linda Darnell?

I don't think I've ever seen The Lodger yet.

Not only is he a composer, he's a composer who produces Benny Herrmann compositions! Wink

Regular. There is no IMAX 70mm in Paris (probably not anywhere in France). They also have 4Dx in this theater but I decided it wasn't the right film for 4Dx Smiley

I'm not sure. At most, there might be a couple of 70mm copies in France...
I was actually more interested in the immersive side than in the aesthetic side of the movie, so I didn't really looked into it: IMAX was what mattered to me for this film.

Atomic Blonde (2017) - 6/10. John le Carré meets John Wick but with a female lead. Charlize Theron is a British super-spy sent to Berlin in 1989 to find and carry off secrets while the Wall is coming down. The le Carré stuff isn't very interesting--it's probably more accurate to call it Alastair MacLean material (improbable double and triple crosses). The Wick stuff doesn't have the comic zing of the Reeves movies. But late in the day there is one sequence that's quite engaging. Tasked with moving a package (Eddie Marsan) from East to West Berlin, Theron comes under fire in the streets. Deciding the best defense is a good offence, Theron identifies the problem building and then goes in after her attackers. Her weapons are limited, and she ends up taking on several two-man teams hand to hand. Theron does most of her own stunts and she's convincing. The killings are messy, and therefore, all the more realistic and satisfying. Theron shows weariness, bruising, gets blood on her face. She's a quick healer, evidently, because she looks really hot at the end. A not very inspired parade of 80s "hits" tromps through the soundtrack (No Smiths? No Bunneymen?). James McAvoy is very good in a significant role.

Aenigma (1987): Cheap 80s Italian Carrie-knockoff complete with bad acting, laughable rather than gruesome deaths and overbearing soundtrack. 4/10

This one's part of a kickstarter campaign I contributed to that 88 Films did last year to restore a bunch of Italian horror movies. They did a great job, too bad this movie suxxx.

Her Sister's Secret (1946) 6.5/10

Single girl gets knocked up on Mardi Gras night by a soldier going off to war. Her married sister is unable to have kids, and her own husband has just gone off to war. Simple solution: Have the sister raise the kid as her own. Not so simple, of course ...
